Exclamation Strep Throat ADVICE PLEASE!

I have an appointment with my Doctor tomorrow to confirm but I think I have Strep Throat. I am worried about my babies! Is it possible for them to contract Strep from their humans?

Re: Strep Throat ADVICE PLEASE!

I would stay away from your birds until you are no longer contagious! And keep a close eye on them for signs of illness.

When I was a young child, I kept getting an uncommon strain of strep over and over and over, and no one could figure out why. After well over a year of pretty much being persistently sick with strep, it turns out it was my moms DYH who kept infecting me. She was an unaffected carrier AND she just loved being around me. Once she was treated with antibiotics, I never got strep again.
Moral of the story- if they can pass it on, then they can catch it. Don't know if it actually makes them sick or not, but you certainly don't want to risk that OR them reinfecting you over and over again.

Hope you feel better soon

Re: Strep Throat ADVICE PLEASE!

Should I just avoid direct contact with them or stay out of the same room?

Could also be mono.... I've had both. Not fun!

Generally speaking, neither illness should effect the birds, but it does help to keep yourself extra clean when handling our birds.... i.e. no kisses, keep hands and face clean, be careful not to wipe your nose or mouth with your hands, etc.

Re: Strep Throat ADVICE PLEASE!

I went to the Dr. today and thankfully it's not strep! I guess allergy season is getting to me. I was so worried about spreading anything I had to the animals that I had my kids taking care of them until I knew for sure.... Maybe I shouldn't tell the kids just yet...LMBO
