Kirby hurt his foot a few days ago so I took his perches out so he would sit at the bottom. Just yesterday I put his perches back and he is mostly recovered so he has been eating like a pig. Here is my question, I just noticed a few minutes ago (I thought it was fine) but he has regurgitated on his perch TONS today. I can't even recall how many times, but he is doing it right now, and I probably noticed it at least 10 times. It is a soft mush (like it always is) and he immediately eats it back up. Is this okay?

Maybe since he missed his perches he is happy to have them?

He is also chomping on the inside of his sleeping hut more than usual. Usually he only bites it a little but right now he seems to be chomping on it.

Okay! I just called the vet and she said that he was probably being way too active after eating and it was upsetting his stomach. That makes sense. He was being extremely active today, and eating a whole bunch. She said we should take his perches out again, feed him less, and let him heal completely. If he continues doing it by tomorrow afternoon I should take him to the vet. Thats a huge relief!

To me, that's a surprising answer from a vet. Typically birds don't vomit for that reason. They're not like humans. Is this an avian vet or one who is very familiar with birds?

Is this regurgitating (controlled) or vomiting (shaking it out everywhere)? If it is vomiting, he needs to have some tests run by an avian vet. Good luck with Kirby!

It looks like regurgitation to me. He shakes his head and mouths it onto his perch, he doesn't look violent. We spoke to an avian vet. She said that parrots sometimes get upset stomaches from both the medicine and what I mentioned above. I for one think it might be because he missed his perch. I'll see what happens and if he doesn't stop by this afternoon (haven't seen any yet) I'll take him back.

I saw that April (kiwibird) mentioned in another post that the meds can irritate the stomach. That makes sense. More sense to me than just the activity after eating. Hopefully it's really "nothing" and Kirby feels well again asap! :)

ps... Kirby is really cute. I love those RF Kakariki's. They have adorable little faces with the red markings.

He hasn't regurgitated at all today, either. Either the meds or he is in love with his perches lol

And thanks! I am seriously in love with kaks!!
