Hello I am new here, I've been on GreyForums.net in the past. And I have joined here because of a bad situation with my Timneh named Greycie. She is 6 years old and will be 7 on July 29.

Now I'm worried because about 2-3 weeks ago I notice a small little bump on her left side, on the top of her head close to the beak and the white skin surrounding her eyes. I am including a pic with a small diagram to be more clear.

Anyhow I kind of wrote it off because I thought she just bumped her head and it was very small, and she was missing a little feather. Now yesterday I noticed below the bump and on the lower part of her white skin around hers eyes looks light red and irritated, like a light rash. So now I am a little worried it might be something a little more serious. She isn't acting different and I haven't seen her itch the spot at all. And I was hoping some people here might have some ideas what it could be until my scheduled vet appointment in a few days.

You can't really see any of the red irritation or much of the bump in the picture include. But I've made a little diagram pointed out the problem areas with descriptions. Any help or suggestions would very much appreciated. I'm pretty damn worried, she is more like a child then a pet to me. And I don't know what I'd do if she passed. I know I sound paranoid but I've lost 2 other parrots in the past from birth defects that were not noticeable until he autopsy. And Greycie came from a different breeder and has been completely healthy since I've had her. I'm just praying it's not a tumor. Thank you very much for reading and again I appreciate any and all help!!!!

HI Fellow Parrot Lovers! Baby Green Wing Macaw, Loving Departed Yellow-naped Amazon "Poe"
Welcome!! You have come to the right place :)

I don't have have the experience to answer your question, but I'm sure someone will come along with more experience than I have if they have any idea what's going on with Greycie

Most of the time the immediate recommendation is get the bird to an avian vet ASAP

When was the last time that Bird was at the avian vet?

Joe

Of course only a AV can tell for sure, but sounds like a possible ingrown feather. Kiwi got once on his cere and it freaked me out. It was a small bump he seemed to take no notice of. It eventually went away on it's own, but took several months if I remember right. IF it is a ingrown feather and IF it is severe enough, the vet could opt to surgically remove. Either way, it is not a serious health issue, IF that's what it is. Here a couple links to more info and photos:

Hopefully Greycie has something relatively minor like that.

Thanks you guys for the quick answers. I really appreciate it. After reading your info Kiwibird I am almost certain it is a cyst or ingrown feather. She has been molting and growing in her new feathers this past month. And it makes sense because in the area of the bump Greycie is missing two tiny feathers. I hope if surgery is needed they have something to relax her or put her out safely. Because she doesn't like being manhandled. Loves cuddling and being scratched but being picked up and poked at she gets pretty nippy.

This info has got me feeling much better then I was because everything seems to fit together based on the time and info you have given me. I have an appointment for Tuesday. So I'll let you guys know what happens. Again I thank you very much for the help. I will definitely be sleeping a little better tonight.

Hahnzel had one close to his beak. Antibiotic shots, anti-inflammitories and time. Get to the vet ASAP so it doesn't enlarge and cause pain.
