Probiotics after antibiotic treatment?

I have a bird at the vet who is on antibiotics as well as various other treatments. Its the conure from a previous post.

I was talking to my mother, who breeds finches and canaries, and she suggested sprinkling a little probiotic onto my birds food for a while after she comes back, to help her recover from the antibiotic treatment.

My mother has had sick birds before, so I assume this is sound advice, but I wanted to check with other bird owners to make sure its a good idea.

If it is a smart move - can anyone recommend a probiotic to buy?

It may not be necessary, but it never hurts.
I use probiotics from Vetafarm, but they may not be available depending on where you live - many companies that make parrot pellets also make probiotics, so you could try checking around websites or pet shops?

I've been doing some research into probiotics, as my Sennie has just had a course of antibiotics. I've started him on Avi-Culture-2 as apparently they're probiotics especially for birds (avian specific). I saw some good reviews and articles on it, in a few parrot magazines. I had my vet check them out and he said they're fine.

I just put the right measure in his water in the morning, mix it in well and make sure he has a couple of drinks before I take it out and refill his water two hours later. I'll probably just keep him on it for a couple of weeks.

After a bad bacterial infection in which I was instructed to put my bird on a 1 week oral antibiotic treatment, I also gave him a focused 1 week treatment of probiotics. My vet okayed it. Sometimes, 1 or 2 times a week even when my bird is fine, I'd add probiotics to his water to help his immune system.

I'll check the brand I use when I get home. I bought it online, affordable, good reviews.
