I've gone to dollar stores and I've gone to pet stores and all that's available are plastic spray bottles from China. I've used a plastic spray bottle on him before and nothing happened, but I still can't help but worry. I specifically bought this spray bottle thinking it might be okay because it's meant for birds, but now I'm just worried. Is this bottle safe? I cleaned it out before I used it.

Horse "fly spray" bottles, made by Tolco, are made in Toledo, Ohio. They are great quality and have highly adjustable spray..... I got mine at Tractor Supply company. If having the image of a horse on the side doesn't bother you, then check them out. :)

Spray bottles aren't likely to pose the same threat as metals from China. They're not going to put zinc in plastic. Did you hear of something harmful?

Yes, that is the very one. I use it and then I dump out the water of the bottle and completely spray the water out of the sprayer head too. Then I leave the spray head off the bottle to dry out. It's just an OCD thing that I do....I don't know if it's a real issue, but the idea of water sitting in it, and getting moldy or something bugs me.

This one? It comes empty, right?

And yes it comes empty.

Patch, like SM & Goaler have said, those types of bottles would not be dangerous, as they are normally made of polyethylene, a slick feeling plastic that wouldn't carry anything dangerous because the formula for making it wouldn't allow it...if you mixed something else in, you wouldn't end up with polyethylene and would be able to tell right away by touch and feel.....

It's good that you're checking products though ! ! !
