Help! Lilo is hurt!

She hit the window and she was hobbling around poor baby! Very stunned! She is now sitting on my finger like normal where she was leaned over. She is now attacking the computer but I am afraid there is something seriously wrong! I cant go to the vet because I don't have any money left!!!!! Ugh! Now she is acting normal but still that cant be good! I need some answers on what to do! I have saved many birds from when they hit the window and they are always good after a while but I wouldn't know if they are alive now! I know I am getting her wings clipped now!!!! She has hit the window before! But not this bad!

There is not much you can do, other than keep her quiet, after a head-on impact, & watch her.....actually, the time I took one of my bird's to the vet for the same thing, I was told to place the bird in a darkened room & was given two doses of a sedative to give the bird.....birds can concuss themselves like we can, but unlike we humans, much of the treatment is quiet & wait and see.....

Since (s)he has flown into a window before, you may be right in clipping its wings, unless you have other animals in the house and the other animals were the reason for the collision...in that case, clipping the bird's wings could put it at a serious safety disadvantage and make it a nervous Nelly, becoming frightened by/around the animal that caused it to fly into the window.....if the problem is another animal(s), then you need to give serious thought to how you let your animals interact.....

Oh no, I'm sorry about Lilo... You say she's attacking the computer? I think that's a good sign! If she was really hurt, she wouldn't be feisty in the least. Still, let her take it easy today. Time to make a decision to either clip (even a light clip will slow her down enough to avoid a hard impact) or, alter the environment so this won't happen again. Please keep us posted on Lilo.

Fwiw... Years ago I had finches. One day a Blue Cap flew fast out of the cage and BAM hard impact into a window. It knocked him clean OUT. I picked up his little body and put in on the floor of the cage as I decided what to do... To my surprise, a little while later, he was up on the perch singing again!! :11: He ended up living out a full lifespan.

Oh thank you guys! She is eating her treats now and is more normal! Yay! She is a bit on the low side but I would be too!

Weco: Thank you and I might not because Sunday a foster boxer is coming and next week our little puppy is ready to come home so maybe it will be a good idea to NOT clip!

I'm glad to hear it . You're right. Maybe keeping her flighted away from a new puppy would be safer for her.

It might be a good idea to cover the window while Lilos out to distract her from them

Oh I have been wanting to put shades or something over those windows but my dad doesn't They are big windows so I cant just tack up a blanket Sadly but you had a good idea

To prevent the predator-prey roles from playing out might be a good idea to crate the puppy or put it in another room while the birds is out.

I would put some sheers on the window that you can pull open and close. If the bird hits the sheer, it is soft.

I will ask about the sheers, that's a good idea!

And if I caged the dogs while she is out, they would be crated all day long! Not my idea of puppy love.

Well then as I'm sure your aware be extra careful and attentive

I will watch her as though she is the only thing in the world! I have been more cautious when scary things might happen like when someone comes and the dogs bark, I will bring her up stairs right away!
