Hello everyone,
I always wanted a bird. So my husband surprised me with a budgie, but unfortunately he had scaley face mites from the pet store he was purchased. We took him to the vet and had him treated but unfortunately it was too late. It's been about a month and I adopted a baby cockatiel from a breeder. She's the sweetest little bird and I absolutely love her. But I am so paranoid about her getting sick or hurt! I took her to the vet about 5 days after I got her and they said she is very healthy. She's very clumsy and falls off her perches. (She was in a glass tank at the breeders) I know she's a baby and not used to climbing. I put a towel at the bottom and a few liners for cushion, bc I was worried about her hurting herself falling. But today I had her up on her jungle gym and she decided to take off and fell, (her wings are clipped) afterwords she was favoring one foot and it felt very warm. I'm extremely worried about it. I'll be keeping a close eye on her. Is this anxiety ever going to go away? I feel like a new mother!:white1:

I'm sorry to hear about your little budgie :(

How old is your baby tiel? I think it's only natural to be concerned and have some worries/anxiety because you are a new mommy!! :)

Do you know if she was allowed to fledge (learned to fly) before her wings were clipped?

I'm sorry to hear about your budgie, thank you for trying to help him the best you could.

But now, congrats on your new Cockatiel!
Is your cage more horizontal or vertical? For now, I'd have her in a more horizontal cage for now because 1) It's a softer fall in case she keeps falling down and 2) They're night-fright prone.
Once she gets more accustomed to learning to climb, then a vertical cage should be okay. Is she still favoring one foot? You have every right to be worried, I'd keep a good eye on her for now. If you see any warning bells from your gut, it's best to get her to a vet.

My cockatiel is almost 11 weeks old. I got her at 9 weeks. I don't believe she learned how to fly. :( I just feel so bad because she is so clumsy right now. I tried to catch her when she flew off the jungle gym so she wouldnt hit the tile floor.

She is in a horizontal cage. Its a large cage but I moved her perches lower towards the bottom. I keep a night light on for her in case of night frights, but keep most of the cage covered. I'm constantly looking things up because I'm so worried. I've been trying to convert her to pellet food and introducing her to fruits and veggies. (So far she only likes melon lol) My husband thinks I'm a crazy person for how stressed I am over ever little thing!

You seem like your'e doing everything perfectly fine, I'd relax a bit for now and maybe just focus on her leg.
And don't worry, you're not even close to crazy! Hopefully he'll see how committed you are for your girl sooner or later.

That could be a possibility -that they clipped her wings before she learned to fly.

What kind of perches do you have for her? I would keep them low like you have them, so they are easier to get onto, and if she falls it's not that far....you're doing everything right! :)

Like EAI said, just keep an eye on her leg...

Do you have pictures you can post of her?

She was favoring the one foot for a little while, she's covered up right now but I checked on her and she was on both feet. She was playing and eating afterwards so hopefully shes okay. I have all different perches in the cage, regular ones, natural ones, the comfy booda ones and corner ones. She has 3 ladders too and she climbs up those well. She is hesitant going from one perch to the other so I wanted to make sure there was a bunch close by.

We love each other. Lol. She cries for me when I come home from work until I take her out and she hangs out on my shoulder while I do stuff around the house and bites my ear and hair. Lol. She knows how to steo up already, I don't have to ask her to do it, because she usually wants to anyways. And I've given her a couple mist baths. Has anyone used a shower perch? I bought one off amazon but havent used it yet.

Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry about your budgie!

Domino is a beautiful baby, I'm glad you found each other. You have her cage set up very nicely. I have a female cockatiel that had problems similar to Domino's when I got her. She had a very bad clip and was then in a tiny cage with no perches. She was very clumsy and had night frights for weeks, even with a night light. I kept a towel in the bottom of her cage and placed perches to help her navigate. She learned to use her perches and ladders pretty quickly. We cured her night frights with a lamp near her cage.

I would wait until Domino's a little more steady on her feet before trying out the shower perch.

Sweet photos of your girl!

She's gorgeous!
If I'm correct, she's a White Face Pearl? (I'm not the best with cockatiels, just a heads up)

(For me) I'd watch her leg for one more day to make sure, but she does seem okay from the sounds of it.

On another not, I love the cage! I was planning on getting it for Izzy, I'd get it for Gizmo but he's on the more less active side- he barely uses the cage he's in now
