My lovely neighbor made a mistake purchasing a poor parakeet without me present. But she asked me to go over to check on it and asked for my advise. I took her out to observe her and I knew she has parasites. Scaley mites!!!!! They told her it was a male and I disagree with them as it is a girl so my neighbor change the name from George or Georgette. She felt awful for her and that's why she rescued her. This poor bird had LONG over grown nails but unfortunately she lost some toes as the parasites is already taking it's toll so she lost some toes with the nails. I advise her to take her to a vet as she needs treatment with ivermectin and today she took her to the vet and confirmed what I told her, so now Georgette is being treated with ivermectin. If you bought any birds from the recent bird fair here, please take them to the vet to have a check up ASAP!!!!!

I have contacted the breeder whom was helping the lady sell the keets to let him know.

Holy moly!!! [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33] good thing she has you for a neighbor Michael!

Poor little Georgette :(

I don't understand how someone who breeds and sells birds can sell sick birds, at a bird fair nonetheless [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35] ugh!!

Unfortunately that happens quite often, that's why I'm hesitant to bring my babies there or to purchase any birds from there. I'm very cautious when I bring a bird home, even ones that's in need of rescue. Although I would feel bad when I tell them no, but I have my babies' health to think of when do I something like that.

IF she had not called me and ask if she can put Georgette with her other birds, she would probably make the mistake putting her with the other ones and it would infect all her other birds as well. I give her the Quarantine 101 speech the other day after viewing Georgette. Of course I sanitized my hands after touching her. I told her that's the reason why we have hand soap and sanitizer all over the house just in case as I have dealt with enough parasites and diseases to know better. My partner says I know more then most vets know....lol..... Cause when we were treating giaradia I specifically asked the vet to prescribe certain medications for the treatment.

I usually do try to make it to the bird fair as I'm there mainly to try to educate people before they make a purchase as my neighbors like me being there and some friends too so they don't make the mistake like with Georgette. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful to do something like that, but one must always put their own existing babies above anything else. That's when you learn to say no! But also voice your opinions IF you see the babies needs medical attention. I have no problem doing either. Certain places freak out when they see me cause I'm like the pet police....lol.....

Can you release the name of the vendor? Bird fair vendors travel around taking their livestock from one fair to another. I attend fairs and would like to keep a wide berth from this vendor if in the same building. I am surprised that this has happened as I thought birds were inspected by some governmental agency.

Unfortunately the vendor was not the breeder whom the birds belongs to. He was trying to be nice to help her. But he should of known better to check first. I wouldn't help someone to sell that was infected. Plus he didn't tell me who they belong to....

By the way, there's no government agency checking there. I've seen poor condition birds one too many times at bird fair. Even way up north in South Dakota.
