We bought a cinnamon broom from trader joes and put it in our living room. Is is safe for parrots?

It says it's all natural. The ingredients are: raw pine brooms processed with pure cinnamon oil from the cinnamon tree

The thing is, it smells SO strong. It's natural but it smells fake lol. It's smelling up the whole house and it's next to the front door.

So, is that safe?

I couldn't get a for sure answer anywhere...seems like some people think it's fine and some people won't even put it near their birds. It's been in the house for a couple hours and he seems fine though.

Sorry Happycat, but I don't know where you are going to get a for sure answer.....

I know a number of members around here believe in the assumed efficacy of aromatic essential oils and/or therapeutic essential oils, but the only guarantee the purveyors & manufacturers offer is that it may help support the immune system or may help maintain healthy lung function, then there is the may be uplifting and calming or may help support the digestive and respiratory systems, but never anything committal though they sure stick their hands right out to collect your $$$ for their product that they really don't know if it will help anything at all.....What you can do is contact Trader Joe's corporate customer service and ask them if that particular broom model is safe for use around companion birds because the cinnamon smell is overpowering.....you'll need to make the contact via regular mail or E-mail in order to get a written response.....you might also ask if a Material Safety Data Sheet is issued for the aromatic fragrance used on the broom.....

Good luck.....

Thank you Weco! You really can't smell it much at all in the room he's in, but I put in in the bathroom until we get more info. Would you say it's safe to leave in our house or could it have harmful effects?

Sorry, I can't speak to the safety of it, but keeping it as far away from your bird as possible is a good idea.....I know that I'm not a big believer of aroma therapy, aromatic essential oils and/or therapeutic essential oils, but without knowing the brand of the cinnamon oil used & its safety record, I wouldn't want to give you wrong information.....
