Luna needs help :(

I'm posting on behalf of my boyfriend's cockatiel Luna. She had a stay in the hospital over Thanksgiving because she was throwing up, lethargic, and had black stool. X rays showed some sort of metal in her gizzard, but she tested negative for lead/zinc poisoning. The vet gave her chelation for 5 days, and force fed and watered her. He said she definitely would have died if my boyfriend hadn't brought her in.

Less than a week later, she is showing symptoms again; she had vomiting/diarrhea/black poo today. Surgery is out of the price range unfortunately (in the thousands, and he's already spent over $1400 on her medical stuff. I'm thinking of trying to feed her electrolytes with a syringe if it gets bad again. Earlier she was lethargic after a bout of vomiting but right now she's energetic and curious. The vet she saw is probably the best avIan vet in the area.

Any suggestions?

Also, here is a picture of them after we picked her up from the hospital. She's scruffy from having barf all over her face... She was very happy to see her daddy though!

What is in her environment that might be causing problems?

I am so sorry . With Robin also it was blood test, x-rays, chelation, surgery, more follow up blood test) I'm thankful I have a credit card that I was able to put it on. That with all of Raven's stuff too, the card is rung up sky high. Even though it's not ideal, can you or your bf open a new credit card? I just don't know what else to tell you.

The only thing I can think of is a second opinion? Maybe could the foreign object in the gizzard be of no consequence and the symptoms be from something else I don't know. Best of luck...

She's always had free reign of the apartment (except the bathroom), so the vet thought it could be carpet fibers from her picking around. She's spent a lot more time locked up since she returned, so I don't think she's had time to get any more, if that's the case.. Her diet is very good (Harrison High Potency, and she also likes to eat eggs and broccoli); and I add tumeric and probiotics. There is also an air purifier.

Darcy spends a lot of time at my BF's house too, and he appears to be fine. He doesn't pick around on the floor line she does though. They have the same diet, although different personal food preferences aside from the pellets.
