caique in water

we are leaving shortly for the emergency room. Sunny (caique) fell into a bucket of water and struggled to get out of it for 5-8 seconds before I could rescue him.
I'm afraid he may have gotten water in his lungs.
will the vet be able to diagnose anything or will it be a "wait and see" situation?
I know bird's lungs are very vulnerable. We are very worried.
He is currently drying thoroughly with a heater next to his cage. he is eating and was a little grumpy a few minutes ago.

any advice appreciated.

Sunny is fine. they checked him out beak to tail-feather and said all his vitals were good. they listened to his lungs too (although this was all done out of view of us.).
He was back to his normal self on the drive in and we felt confident he was okay, but it was worth the reasonable fee at the emergency pet place in Boston to have him checked out. We will rest easier tonight.

thanks for all of your interest and positive thoughts!

Huh? Reasonable and Boston in the same sentence?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Glad Sunny is OK! When in doubt a trip to the vet or emergency care is best. You are both great parronts!

Hey thanks so much everyone for your support and well-wishing! We have been getting some chuckles out of the whole thing as well.
As a further update Sunny actually had a vet checkup appointment scheduled for the next day, so they were able to look for any subtle issues that may have resulted from the incident.
He was given a clean bill of health. and they took blood to get a baseline for the future (they won't do it again until he's 10).
Today he's a little quiet but were are spoiling him a little more than usual.
thanks again everyone!

I'm so glad Sunny has been checked out by your vet and is just fine after his scary adventure. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the vet bills. I'm sure Sunny is loving the extra attention.
