Feather Color Changes

I was wondering what could cause feathers to turn from green to yellow.

Re: Feather Color Changes

If the bird was definitelt tested for PBFD then you don't need to worry. But either way the bird needs a complete blood panel done. This could be amino acids or liver, even kidney problems. Many birds that pluck will have feathers that come in a different color. An example would be CAGs. Many pluckers end up growing red feathers where grey were. The plucking could be hormonal and became habitual, or it could be a yeast or bacterial infection. Then of course there is parasites.
The diet is truely lacking. The bird needs less fruit and more veggies. Especially cooked sweet potato as it contains carotene that is good for the feathers. Also brown rice and some cooked beans should be added.
As far as her nesting, the egg should be left with her for 20 days then removed. She should not provide any nesting areas afterwards or the laying behavior will continue. I hope this helps.

Re: Feather Color Changes

There can be many things causing the changes your seeing, having an avian vet check would be very wise at this point, however two things that poped out to me in your post, one, the change of diet to mostly fruit, there is most definatly things laking with this type of diet only for a ringneck, and secondly, you say the bird is nesting, is she using a nest box? or a nest in the open?, if a nestbox I could see that might also be a problem with the lack of natual sunlight causing a vitamin D deficientcy, I hope the problem lies in either a nutritional or hormonal nature and not because of disease......good luck and keep us posted
