Possible vent growth?

Hey everyone,

I couldn't find any answers through googling, so I decided to ask here.

I'm the owner of an eight-year-old Dusky Conure, Merrie. Yesterday I was petting his tummy (through the cage) and noticed a small hard knot right above his vent. I couldn't get a good look or feel of it, though, because he is difficult to handle due to nervousness and aggression.

Is that normal, though? Could it be a bone or muscle protrusion, or something worse like a lipoma?

That sounds like a trip to the vet to me.

Hi there, Welcome to the forum!

As much as we'd like to help, we can't give advice based on your description, there are just too many possibilities and any advice we gave you would only be a guess. I have to agree with Doublete, if this is something you are noticing for the first time, I think an exam by an avian vet would be very wise.

I agree with the above suggestions to take him in for an exam. As Allee said, we'd just be guessing at best. I wonder if you were just feeling the bottom end of his keelbone. Since we can't be sure if it's a growth or normal structure that you're describing, I would definitely schedule an exam with an avian vet. Good luck, and keep us posted.
