New budgie smacked his face into the wall, scraped cere!

Halp! I managed to get the worlds most stubborn handfed budgie. He's a good bird (um, complete pellet/nutriberry conversion on the first day trying?) but the three times he's been out (cage cleaning, transport to vet, just now because he'd been good) he gets two minutes into it and then flips out and takes a few terrified spins around the room. He bonked his little face yesterday, but only bad enough to leave a tiny white mark. I wasn't too concerned, since we were on our way to the avian vet.

This time, however, he smacked into the wall hard enough to knock some sense into him I guess, as he immediately flew to the closet and stepped up on my wife's finger and quietly went back in the cage like "I hecked up. Ow."

I'm a wordy person, sorry. Anyway, here's the injury, he's got a lil flour on it now which he took very calmly. I plan to call the vet first thing in the morning, but in your opinion: should I be worried? Should stay up all night with my eye on it?

OUCH! That looks painful! How's your little buddy acting now? Has he eaten anything since the impact? How is his balance?

Well it's very nearly bedtime so he hasn't looked interested in eating (as well as already eating less because he's only been home three days... ugh) but he's sitting upright on his perch, and I got him tweeting cheerfully with a budgie sounds video. The bleeding (if it was more than a scrape, I can't tell) stopped the second I put the flour on.

Check his demeanor in the morning. If he is eating, has normal energy level, vocalizing, in other words acting normal, and there is no sign of bleeding, that's good news. Since you're the one there with him, if you have any medical questions, or feel worried, it is best to talk to the vet. They can't answer too much without suggesting that you bring him in, but remember, that can be traumatic too, so you have to see if he seems like he's getting on fine, I'd not stress him unnecessarily. That's my opinion.

A light wing clip would be a good thing for now, as he learns his surroundings and the routine, and becomes more comfortable. Good luck with your little guy.

He's alright! Chirping and being generally grumpy as usual. No longer wants anything to do with hands... gonna have to rework that from the ground up. But he's whole!
