I was putting my bird into his cage so I could nap, when I noticed a HUGE cut on his right nostril. Now, I say huge, because for him, it is. I have never seen this bird bleed either, and I'm a HUGE worry-wart.
The cut was a little inflamed, so I cleaned it with warm water/saline solution, used tweezers to get the feathers out of it and noticed it's not deep at all. It has stopped swelling and that is going away, and it stopped bleeding pretty quick. He doesn't pick at it and it doesn't seem like it's causing him any real discomfort, he doesn't even mind me looking at it (touching it on the other hand...)
I can't take him to or call a vet right now as it's past closing times for the vets in my area, is there any household first aid I could use on him? I don't want to wake up to find I gotta live life without my best friend

I don't want to clean it too much, but I was wondering if there was something I could put on it to cover it to keep out crud? I don't want a petroleum product right there on his nostril, I don't want a stuffed nose or inhalation. It doesn't bleed so there's no use for the styptic powder I have, so now I guess I just watch and wait. He has a vet appointment later this week! I can ask what to do if there's a next time
