Excuse my naivety/ignorance, egg laying

While telling friends and family that I am a now a first time bird owner with a 14 week old CAG (female) they relayed their experiences of owning birds in the past. And reminded me that I can expect my girl to lay some eggs, I had kind of forgot about that seeing as she'll be alone with no male companion.

When should I expect this to happen, how often, what do I do when it does, how does it impact her health (both physically and emotionally) etc?

Welcome to the forum. Just because you have a hen doesn't mean she will lay eggs. She might at about age 10 but probably not before. It takes about 7to 10 years for them to mature. If you supply everything she needs including sexual stimulation then she might lay eggs. Infertile of course. Most parrots don't lay unless EVERY THING is right. Good nutrition., safe environment, mate, and a nest site are just a few. Don't make mountains out of mole hills. Stay active on the forum and learn about living with a companion parrot. I have lots of hen parrots who have never laid an egg.

thank you, it's a relief to know it's not a given that additional concern will happen. The regular challenges of raising one's first young CAG is enough to consume my brain power and energy.

I had a cockatiel that started laying eggs in the late 90s. I changed her cage and environment. This fixed the issue. Now fast forward to January 2016 and I have an Eclectus female. She laid two eggs in February 2016, I applied the same method, changing her cage and environment, she has stopped laying. Try changing the cage layout, move her cage or her layout. Good Luck!
