White Bellied Caique
Hi! Louis is a white bellied caique. Today I noticed that his feet are warmer than they usually are. I am not sure if that is because it is warmer in the house than usual, (it is 79 right now instead of our usual 75). It may have been as warm as 81 earlier when the sun was on the windows.

Do you guys think I should call the vet just for that? He has been acting differently, but I really think that is because he was back to the shower today. To make a long story short, I had stitches all over because of 15 different skin cancer tests, and I couldn't take him in the shower until my wounds were COMPLETELY healed. This process took about a month. I felt terrible that he didn't get a shower, but there wasn't much I could do. It was a tough time for me being covered with stitches and taking care of my kids. I changed his water a lot and let him bathe himself in his water dish. Anyway, I feel guilty about this, and maybe that is why I am over worried. He was so happy to be in the shower today! It was so cute to see him really enjoying the water. I used to give him about 4 showers a week, and I am going to go back to that.

Another thing is that I am having a hard time getting his cage completely clean. I just ordered some products to help me further sanitize it. I have been using a little bit of dawn dish soap diluted with hot water and then a rinse. I don't think this is doing the job well enough, so I am moving to nature's miracle and poop off.

So.... there's my story for now. I am not as bonded to him without the showers, so I feel a bit nervous.... I am guessing everyone goes through ups and downs, so I am hoping that with a lot of patience, more attention, more time out of the cage and more cleaning he will be a lot closer to me soon.

Any tips would be much appreciated, and if anyone else has felt hot feet before, let me know....

as I understand it, warm feet are a sign that the bird is relaxed and happy. If a bird is stressed they reduce blood-flow to the feet to provide extra oxygenation to flight muscles and core organs... A bird's feet will vary in temperature over the day, and depending on activity, but in general constantly cold feet are a bad sign, and warm feet a good one.

when Baby is happy and playing on my shoulder I can sometimes feel her feet getting warm right through my shirt!

JawZ is right, but often its much simpler than that: They control the blood flow to their feet for temperature regulation. A birds feet are like their radiators [Which may be the purpose of that link ... I didn't check it].
