Smoke Issue-Hyde County Fire

I have been dealing with a smoke issue for a few days now. Last night and this morning were bad to the point it hurt my chest leaving the house this morning.

Poor BB thinks I have lost my mind. I have two air Purifiers running next to his cage. Over head ceiling fan running to keep air moving. Central fan turned on to keep air moving.

Still I worry about BB. Nothing else I can do but hope the wind shifts like they say it will tonight along with some RAIN will help

Here at work . A hour inland. Its not bad at all. Wish I could have brought him with me but that is not a option.

I am sure Henpecked knows the area. When a fire starts it burrows into the ground . Mostly peat moss there .

Darn, Chris, this is some scary stuff!

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! It's got to be pretty bad if you wake up with your chest hurting! :11:

Yeah i was out to long in it last night. Should have had a bandana over my face . Live and learn .

We used to live in a forest fire area and when I was a kid, one got close enough we were forced to evacuate and could actually see the flames. Plenty of other days smoke from farther away fires would roll in and settle over the whole town and be as thick as fog.

None of the birds I have known have ever had major issues with occasional smoke from a fire. I would imagine unless they have respiratory issues already it's probably ok, especially with all the fans and air purifiers you're running

. I'm sure they encounter smoke from fires in nature and it's probably no more annoying/dangerous to a healthy bird who lives indoors than it is to us. And do keep that in mind, BB is inside and not being exposed to nearly as much as you would be outside. Going outside when the air is thick with smoke is like smoking a whole pack of cigarettes at once, maybe even worse:26: I hope the fire doesn't get close to you or anyone on the forum so that you risk loosing your home. Fires are scary.

Scary no matter what! As resilient as our fids are, they can be SO delicate. It's only natural to worry and take the action you have. I know I would be doing the same.

That is terrible, Chris Hoping for the winds to change and rain to cleanse the foul air. You mentioned central fan. Do you have central a/c? That might help filter the air. If not, are there a large public place such as a mall to spend some time with BB?

There is nothing in nature more terrifying* to me than fire. Too common in SoCal; had to evacuate once for 5 days and came close a few years later.

*Never lived in areas with tornadoes. That might be worse.

yeah Central Heat and Air. I run Hepa filters .

We have it all here. Tornadoes . Hurricanes Flood Fire Whew Love where I live lol

Very scary situation, Chris! I hope today brings rain and a change in the wind direction.

As far as weather conditions and natural disasters, you live in area that has it all. I hope the fires end soon.

Christine I'm sorry to hear you guys had to go through this! I'm glad the winds have shifted. Hopefully it'll drift somewhere with less population!

As April said, they would encounter this in nature at times. With air purifiers and the fan I think it'll be okay

Now that the wind direction has changed, consider changing your H/C filters. Your opening the home up is a great idea since you can exchange (clean) the air in your house quicker that way.

If the smoke comes back in your direction, consider reducing air movement in the home. The greater the air movement, the greater the likelihood of pulling outside air inside. Consider cutting back to only the filter units in the bird room.

Thanks Julie. I feel so bad for the wildlife that has to avoid this . Its Funny you can even see it in our Dogs . They avoid the outside now .
