I read this and thought maybe it might benefit other people on the forum?

I've been reading about metal poisoning in depth for the past few days (so much so it turned my brain to mush lol) and I found this....

Testing for Zinc in Parrot Toys

I thought it was well worth a bookmark and I was glad to hear I'm not the only one who makes sure magnets don't stick to anything!!!

It's such a big thing in keeping our puddings safe and it can sometimes be so difficult to tell whether they're the real deal.

I got the link from this page. It's a story of a man whose bird got poisoned and how. From his food bowl. That he believed (noone can blame him) was bird safe as it was indeed intended for birds.
HarleysPerch.com - The Squawk Spot for Parrots and Their Humans - articles & essays, links & info, electronic postcards, supplies, books, and gifts

Looks to be some other useful links there too.

This article plainly SCARED me. Now I'm wondering if the metal dishes for the food and water have zinc in them. PLUS, you know that coating they put on the metal bars? he chewed that all off in the back, leaving the metal exposed. He's been fine, but could this potentially harm him? I'm like panicking now. If I ever lose my bird...

The cages themselves are usually fine from what I can gather Vivica. I mean, a poorly made food bowl is one thing, but a cage made by a reputable manufacturer (I don't know about the US but here for example one is Ferplast) should be perfectly safe.

If you're worried, why not do the test? Doesn't cost much at all to do and it'd put your mind at ease!

I have received a parrot as a gift from one friend. I do not know how to take care of it. Lucky me to find this information. Otherwise, my parrot may get into danger some days :D
Thanks for this information :green1:

No problem at all.

The forum is PACKED with useful information. What type of parrot do you have? I highly recommend getting a book specifically about your breed and how to take care of it so you've armed with knowledge.

Best of luck :D

Hi Celia, maybe if you make a thread and post a picture of your bird, we will be able to help. :)
