Hi, what do u guys use to clean your bird's cage?
My neighbor is using a mixture of vinegar-and-water (weekly). Is it enough ?
I am using Pronto 100CH Steam cleaner which is bought from the Vacmaster, Canada before 2 years and used to clean weekly. I have heard that steam cleaning is better than using other chemicals . Actually which is the best way to clean the cages ? :grey: :(

I clean Nigel's cage daily, I don't allow any buildup. I used water and sometimes water with vinegar. I would love to have a steam cleaner!

The issue is getting it all the way over here (Malawi). I am searching for one from South Africa. What a dream to have!

Water and vinegar solution for a pre-soak and initial wipe, then a final clean with my McCulloch steam cleaner. Takes me 20 minutes to clean two cages fully [emoji4].

I clean the cages daily, quick scrap down with a plastic paint scrapper, then a quick spray with vinegar and water solution and wipe it. I soak it once a week.

Works really well, though I have a lot of cages, so I'd probably do better with a higher capacity one, but this gets the job done really well.

I also throw orange peels into a spray bottle with vinegar and water, and use that to clean with. All but one of my cages are powder coated, the other one is just stainless steel.

I just have the one bird, so it's easy to wipe and clean daily... just water and paper towels. When I get a new perch or toy, I may boil it or just use a vinegar scrub.

Because I'm paranoid, 4Wheel!
Who knows where they've been?
Who knows what they were stored near, or what bugs/pests werre around, or what pesticides were used, or what other birds may have touched them in the store...
That goes for new cages, perches, the works.

Good to know. I will definitely do that to anything bought from my LBS but what about from Amazon or Dr. Fosters? Additionally, doesn't boiling the toys hurt them? Again, not being a jerk here, just the new guy and truly curious.

Thanks,

Shane

I've not mastered steam cleaning yet, unless it's something that is outside and not delicate etc.

I would think the steam cleaning would be better as the first initial blast, no? Then follow up with water/vinegar wipe down.
