Okay, new bird owner here, so forgive my possible paranoia lol.

I'm getting my Senegal parrot tomorrow, and I've thrown out every can of aerosol that I had. However, I'm looking at my pressurized metal cans of shaving cream right now and - again, maybe I'm just being super paranoid - but is there aerosol in those? I don't think I've ever seen any reasonably-priced shaving cream that isn't in a pressurized metal can like that. So is my regular, average-Joe shaving cream still safe to for me to use? (Obviously, the bird won't be living in the bathroom lol)

Thanks!

The problem with aerosols isn't so much the propellant, but the product itself. Shaving cream shouldn't be an issue because it's not creating a fine mist that's going into the air like air freshener or other sprays. It's really anything, aerosol or not, that's going to become airborne that can create the issue.

Some may disagree with me and that's fine. Personally with things like this I simply put a closed door (or two) between myself and the bird and turn on the bathroom fan. Proceed as normal and leave the fan on for a few mins after you're done.

If you aren't self-disciplined to do this ... that's ok too and remove the offending products as you are already.

I simply built my morning routine so that I look after the bird and her needs long before I begin to get ready for work. That way she's already been put back in her cage and any chemical products that I may have used on myself never come into contact with her as I don't see her again until after work 8 hrs later. Common sense usually does the trick. :)

Shaving cream comes out in a foam and are not an issue. So you are safe there.

In the past, it was a combination of the aerosol and products that come out as a fine mist. Today, its the contains of the fine mist. With most products, a closed door will work, since most are sprayed on to the Human. The problem mists are those that are sprayed around the home to mask smells. They tend to linger in the air for longer periods of time. Take great care when using that type of product. They can be / are dangerous to our parrot.

Take care with cleaning products and any product that still lingers more than a coupe of minutes after spraying.
