Hi. I have been looking after my african grey chick for the past week shes two and a half weeks old, not the first time im hand-rearing birds but they are usually not so small. I removed the chick from the parents because the mother had bitten two of the baby aftican greys toes out which is unusual because shes normally excellent. I've started noticing the feet turning a purplish greyish colour. I dont think it is normal is it? Or does she have an infection ? What can i do to help her or use on her feet? Does she need a vet? Shes eats perfectly well and is very receptive to my touch but im worried that about her foot. Please advise. Thanks.:grey:

Fly free Plum, my gorgeous boy.
Please do get her to a Avian Vet urgently as this does not sound good to me. Infection sets in easily, let us know of this little ones progress please.

Welcome to the forum!
There could be an infection setting in, if it were me I would take him/her to an avian vet as they may need antibiotics. Is there a possibility that circulation is being cut off?
It does not sound normal to me. Please let us know how your baby is doing.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome, and I hope your future posts are happy and carefree!

As others have posted, a visit to an avian vet is crucial. Birds are fragile under the best of circumstances, and a young juvenile has little margin for error. That her appetite is good is encouraging, but could change at any time with an infection.

Please keep us updated!!

I'm glad she got into the vet and hope the swelling goes down. Please let us know how she's doing as the meds start to work:)
