Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
I'm not quite ready to handle Charlotte's grooming just yet, so today she had an appointment for a manicure at the vet's office. While the tech was working on her nails, the vet himself popped in and asked after her. We talked a little, and he gave her a quick once over, and decided that her medications needed to be adjusted. The new medication isn't one that he carries, so he said somebody would call me when they got the prescription called in to a pharmacy. Imagine my surprise a few hours later and it was the vet himself calling. He spent another 30 minutes talking to me about her and her needs, and fixing me more detailed instructions and suggestions. And he never charged me for an office visit. He did all this just because he cares about how she's doing.

I really do have the best vet ever.

Always nice when the vet takes such personal interest. Only saw Dr. J once, and he has a wonderful reputation for good reason!!

MrC has been using him since the 90's, so I didn't consider using another vet. I am beginning to see why he's so well loved. He's got a little of the personality of a surgeon, which does turn some people off, but he knows his stuff and obviously cares deeply about his patients.

I truly love hearing when a Vet goes above and beyond in their care for their Parrot clients. It helps so very much to balance out the occasional horror stories.

We have always needed a strong relationship with our Avian Vets over the years. The number of way-to-early morning (very late night) dashes to their offices. Staff waiting at the door, only helps to offset the fear one is carrying when your baby is crashing.

Thanks, for sharing the efforts your Vet puts into his clients.

I don't recall him as being warm and fuzzy, but what matters most is competence! Above all else!!

Having a relationship with your vet that you trust them and can openly chat is so very important!! We have two avian vets we use, one our long time personal vet and then the vet we've met thru the shelter. Both are absolutely awesome vets but just as important really nice people who are friendly and make going to the vet more enjoyable.

Just like having a great relationship with your own doctor, a wonderful vet can make such a huge difference!! Awesome to hear you are lucky to have found one of those vets and established an open line of communication :)

As I've said in a few threads lately, I love my vet too. He's very compassionate and thorough and having birds himself, I trust him in the care of mine, even though he's not technically an Avian vet, he handles all exotics. My local Petsmart also uses him for their animals.

I recently met the other vet at the practice and she's fantastic too, though she doesn't do exotics. All the people in the office too are great. I'm very lucky to have been recommended them and I recommend them to everyone.

Jen, since you're in the Philly area, if you have adopters in the Northeast, Somerton Animal Hospital (Dr. Gulliford) is my vet.
