Should I be worried? My bird's nail is growing into a circle

Our sun conure is almost 2 years old but we haven't been trimming his nails since we did not want to run the risk of making him bleed. We live in a small town so the closest vet that offers exotic animals service is about 45 minutes away. We just noticed that one of his nails is growing in a circle. He doesn't seem to be pained by it or make any sign of discomfort, but I saw that the nail seem to be growing towards his foot, and I am worried that it might cut into his skin. Should we take him to a vet?

Yes, yes! Take him to a vet, or at least to somebody experienced in grooming. It will grow into his foot, become impacted and inflamed! I'm glad you asked... good luck!

If you cant clip it yourself then yes please get someone to clip that nail and the rest too

Please ask for some blood tests too as this amount of growth in two years is excessive and IMO abnormal.

Be prepared for perhaps repeat visits to get this back to something relating to normal as I am unsure that it can be done in one visit without causing harm to your Sun.

How about some of the rough, nail trim perches also as an aid to good foot health?

Its going to take several Avian Vet visits to get these nails under control!

Make an appointment ASAP. As stated a full spectrum blood test is strongly recommended.

The Rickeybird and I fought over nail-trimming for the first many years we were together. I dreaded it worse than I dreaded taxes or dentist visits.

I really recommend getting those nail-trimming perches... they can eliminate nail-trimming, which was always so stressful for me and the Rb. It took a few years, but I eventually established a pattern/rotation that keeps him trimmed. I haven't had to do his nails in 20-plus years. I keep a dowel as the main "highway" down the middle of the cage, but the special cement/trimmer/textured perches are all over.
A few brands... but there are many: Polly's Sand Walk... Pumice Perch... Trimmer Perch...
Be sure to introduce them gradually: they're abrasive to their tender feet at first. I started with a couple, observed the nails' growth, added more.
