Hi everyone.. keep my friend April and her cockatiel Pip in your thoughts :(:yellow1:

Pip had a bad night fright tonight and April thinks that he may have broken a wing. She has tried to contact every Avian vet within 2 to 4 hours drive, but of course right now none are open. So she called the local emergency vet to see what they could do.

They wouldn't even SEE the poor bird! She begged and begged and they simply said "How do you think he'll feel with cats and dogs here?! he'll be so stressed he could die" and refused to see him. The other 24hour vet also will not see birds, even in an emergency.

Our two good avian vets in the city are both closed tomorrow. The emergency vet was her last chance until Monday. I feel so bad and discouraged for her.

Does anyone on the east coast of canada know of an avian vet that we may have missed in our search that will be open tomorrow (On a Sunday)?! she is willing to drive as far as she needs to!! Any help would be appreciated.

Feeling so heartbroken for her and her poor cockatiel right now.

Since the likelihood of a Avian Vet visit being Monday. Do you and/or your friend have 'Vet Rap' that can be lightly rapped around the body to hold at least the broken wing in place or both wings to limit movement until Monday? Keeping the wing from moving will limit any additional damage and limit (somewhat) the pain.

As you likely known, the larger the City, the greater the likelihood of finding a Vet Clinic that is open 24 /7 and also the number of emergence care clinics that have AV vets on call.

Another, option is a Country Vet (Farm Vet), since they support larger and small animals, well anything that is found on a Farm.

Again, limit movement by rapping!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Sorry to hear this, Sarah. A shame local emergency vets won't at least do a basic check and prescribe pain meds if needed. So many avian medicines are found in mammal formularies.

Are there any bird clubs that may be a resource for eligible vets? So hard to wait until normal weekday hours of operation. Wishing Pip the very best.

Quick update - April says he is doing okay. He's still favouring his wing but she has him in a hospital bed for the time being. She hasn't found a vet open today, but the emergency clinic staff that are working are different from last night so she is thinking despite the difficulty they gave her she might take him in tonight rather than wait for tomorrow to call our avian vet.

Fingers crossed that Pip stays stable.
