Unusual Feather-like growth?

Hello,

I very recently noticed that my Hahns Macaw has a small, fleshy cluster of cream-colored, feather-like growths near the tip of his tail region (just above his tail feathers. I've read about feather cysts, but I'm not sure if these match images I've seen of cysts (besides, most images I've seen have been of canaries, not macaws). They are all quite small, maybe a half-centimeter in length, and he doesn't seem bothered by them at all. There is also no swelling or redness at skin level.

Also, he does have quite a few new-growth feathers erupting on his breast and back, so I'm wondering if these could be new tail-feathers (he lost three or four a few weeks ago).

Has anyone ever encountered this? I'm new to this forum, BTW.

Regards,
A. A. Saucier

I think that he may just be molting but hope folks with that breed weigh in. I did foster one of those many years ago for an active duty servicewoman and that Hahns, did have a very strange molt process... big (for the size of bird) early shafts that ultimately became feathers.

I also think it is moting. But an unusual molting. If it gets worse or bigger. Or even seems to be bothering Him/Her I would take him/her to the vet. You can never be to careful. I hope this helps.:D

Agree re vet visit, especially if this doesn't resolve into feathers, or there is any distress, heat or redness or any change in eating/drinking/droppings.
