RIP Hugo (African Brown Headed Parrot) 2 years old, lil Rosie May (Lovebird)
I thought I would share this with you....

I have had Rosie for about 3 months now - amazing how time flies...I remember like it was only yesterday seeing Rosie and it taking us over 15 minutes to get her out of the cage - she was so busy running and jumping around...a predication for the future???? mmmmm.....

Anyways, after about 3 weeks she showed signs of sneezing and having synus. After panicking - I think that alot of you have figured out that I tend to panic quickly over little things :09:. I took her to my new vet and he assured me she was fine etc. I then began to incorporate long periods of her sitting outside in her cage - I made sure it was warm and an enjoyable experience for her :D

She would sneeze alot during that time and with supplements I continued to put her out as much as possible. I woke up this morning and the thought occured to me that her sneezing has stopped altogether....she sneezes now and again but who doesnt? LOL. I have no doubt that her routined trips outside have made the difference. We all read info on the net and get advice from others but I feel - this refers to me - that I dont always realise how important the advice is until I see the results and what impact it has on my bird.

Letting your bird sit outsidd does not only allow for a fun activity but gives them the air they need and keeps them healthy. My ventilation in my flat is monitored but I have found it clearly is not enough.

I then get upset because maybe it could of helped Hugo a lil...I guess it doesnt help to think about "what ifs"...Im sorry Im ranting again about him but its just not fair!!!!! Those vets should have their licences taken away!!!!! :(...sorry, having a "Im missing Hugo day"...gonna go and watch Linky's awesome BH video then I will feel better again :D

Thank you for this post Jess! We definitely tend to forget that our birds also need FRESH natural air. :D

I am so glad to read that her sneezing is less!

I then get upset because maybe it could of helped Hugo a lil...I guess it doesnt help to think about "what ifs"

You are too hard on yourself about Hugo, what happened - happened. There is ALWAYS a bigger picture that we do not see or understand immediately. In time you will. Every experience that we have in our life is a lesson intended to make us stronger, wiser and a better person. We must find the positive in ourselves. Never ever think "what if" again, it is negative!

You need to change the way that you see your experience with Hugo. Instead of "I then get upset because maybe it could of helped Hugo a lil" you should say: "Watching Rosie enjoy the fresh air made me think of Hugo who now have all the fresh air he could ever wanted, it makes me smile because I know he is happy" .

OMG now I am crying.

RosieM is a gift to you from Hugo. I so believe in reincarnation, especially when it comes to our pets.

Jessica,

"Our eyes are placed in front because it's more important to look ahead than to look back."

If you love Hugo, move on. It's what he'd want you to do. Never forget him, always keep him in your heart. You have Rosie now. Just remember, it wasn't your fault he passed and you did everything possible to help him. You are a vision of a very good parront. Keep at it with Rosie.

And another thing, Hugo is a Brown-Headed Parrot? I thought he was an African Grey? lol.

Jess, you have nothing to feel guilty about. Anyone reading all your threads regarding Hugo life, and his battles, will know you did everything in your willpower to help him. Remember, when you became his guardian, he was already a sick bird, not knowing this. When signs of illness, started, you always went the extra mile, doing anything and everything possible for Hugo. How many times, did we think Hugo would not make it through the night.? Many many times. You nursed him, always making sure he had been given his medication, and kept monitoring him.
You pro-longed Hugo's life, spoiling him with so much love and dedication.

If Hugo was to send you a message today he would say

Thank you for such a beautiful life, I will never forget you
Thank you for always playing and making my day a joyful one

Thank you for all the little toys and treats, I knew you were so special

Thank you for always calling me a little piggy, but your food was so good

Thank you for sitting with me night after night, always putting me first

Thank you for always allowing me to be "The Boss"

If I had to re-live my life all over again, I would not change a thing

You have made me proud, by taking in Rosie May and making her a part of your life

I will always be in your heart, sharing all of Rosie May's joys

Thank you mommy

I will always love you

Hugo "The Boss"

Thanks so much guys/gals...:(....:)

AP - Lol, you gave me a giggle about thinking Hugo was a CAG - I think he thought he was one ;)

SB - He couldnt of picked a more suited lil gal for me :D

Ant, those words are so beautiful and Im copying them to print and put up in my study - thank you my friend!

You have all made me realise that I wouldnt be honouring Hugo's memory by letting my emotions be driven by what if's and guilt. Thank you for reassuring me and giving me a gentle forum shake - lol! :D I think I need to stop feeling sorry for myself and realise that its wasted energy and dampening his memory.

RIP Hugo...gone but not forgotten - you will be remembered not for what you suffered but for what you gave me - Rosie :)

You guys/gals on the forum mean the world to me - thank you for your support and understanding!
