Switching from Zupreem

My DYH Amazon has been eating Zupreem Veggie blend for the past several years after switching from the fruit blend (reason for that switch was because she seems to much prefer eating fresh or dehydrated fruits rather than veggies which she mostly will not touch). I did try the natural blend at one point & she liked them even less.

Anyway, my question is about what better quality, healthier pellet to switch her to? I was thinking about maybe going with both TOPS & Harrison's & either switching them out every other day so she gets both or mixing them (only if she does not favor one over the other)? The price difference between the two is not significant enough for me to rule one out over the other so I'm looking just at the nutrition value. I see that they both contain sunflower seed which I always tried not to feed her. Is the sunflower seed used in these diets different than ones used in seed mixes to make it healthier somehow? The other main difference I see is that Harrison's has added vitamin supplements & TOPS does not. That's why I thought maybe combining them would be more beneficial?

I should also add that I have not been but will also be adding some fresh sprouts to her diet when I find the right seeds to grow myself. I am new to this but understand the importance of it as an addition to her daily pellets & fruit/seed treat mix. I would rather grow them myself than buy them from the store where I do not know how they were handled before being put on the shelf (I have some experience working in a grocery store produce department).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Sunflower seeds are actually not bad for your bird IN MODERATION which is how you will find them in those brands.

As for sprouting, it is incredibly easy and very nutritious! I'll link an easy "how to" article for you.

Either is a great choice based on their commitment to quality products and Human grade processing facilities. Also, both have small packages available to limiting your costs during trials. Also, both have various size pellets that may help during introductions since Parrots can be choosy and different sizes can help.

The lack of sugar and salt in both product can be an issue when converting to them.

Do not use sample packs as they tend lose what little favor and nutrition they have quickly due to the lack of volume to help maintain those qualities.

The sunflower seed is the same product with the exception that it has been dried and powdered, which greatly limit the amount of oil as part of the volume.

Enjoy the process! Leave the expectation of a quick switch behind!

FYI: As with any dry foods, remember to keep them frozen!
