Purple bird poop? O.o

An odd occurrence this morning- I took my 14 week old sun conure out for training and he dropped a load of purple poop on my couch! I think it may just be the ZuPreem fruit blend pellets I feed him and he's just had a lot of purples LOL is there another serious problem lurking? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you said. You could of course try a non coloured pellet?

It'd probably be best to have noncoloured. But the people I got him from fed him these and recommended I use the same- would it be difficult to switch to another kind of pellet? And thanks! That's relieving to hear

A bit of trial and error really. I only like an organic pellet and for me here it is Harrisons (used as missiles) or TOPs Organics. So its TOPs LOL. Zupreem do a natural one dont they. Have a good look at their websites and the ingredients listed before buying. You could ask any friends with birds to try what they have if natural pellet?

Please move your Parrot off 'Color Added Pellets' ASAP! If you're Parrot had past a load of Red or Black poop! The correct response would be a fast run to your CAV (Certified Avian Vet). Color added to Pellets is of zero benefit to your Parrot and does lead to this kind of alarm.

Changing to a non-colored Pellet is fairly easy if you stay within the same brand with the same blend. The problem becomes more difficult as you target moving to a little or no salt and little or no sugar blend, all Human Grade. That process can take longer as you will need to blend the new, healthier pellet with the old type.

Move to no color added first and than on to a healthier pellet as recommended by my good friend above!

Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. 30-ish years ago, Harrison's was still a small company. My vet was actually able to talk to Dr. Harrison about my bird's species and status, and they decided on the High Potency. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff. My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day.
