Question about serious health issue

Ok, so I'm fairly new to this forum. I have a 4.5 month old Conure, Rory. Today my dog grabbed him and he went into shock. After about an hour of sleeping with a towel wrapped around him he started acting normal. I noticed blood on his nares and we took him to the vet. After an xray it was determined he has bleeding in his lungs. The vet gave him a 25% chance of surviving and I'm totally devastated. They said the fact that he's even alive now (at the time of the visit) is amazing and good news. They suggested he be kept in a warm, dark place, with good airflow and to continue with his normal routine. They said if he makes it past the 48 hr mark he'll survive. My question is has anyone experience this before and if so any advice? He is eating his pellets atm, lets us pet him, is making noises and playing with his toys. You honestly wouldn't think anything was wrong with him. I'm hoping so desperately he'll pull through. Any advice would be great, thank you.

Google "hospital cage" - you want a box, many people use aquarium tanks, padded on the floor with towels, paper towels, something soft. Food and water dishes down there on the floor. Make sure the water dish is shallow, a bird can drown in a half inch of water. Keep him warm: if you can put a heating pad under half the box so he can get warm if he wants and get away from it if he wants. Keep it fairly dark. Maybe don't pet him or handle him right now, let him be calm and quiet.

Everything said above. Did the vet say/do anything in regards to the dog's saliva? Hope Rory pulls through!

Have you been given antibiotics? Was it a Certified Avian Veterinarian you saw?

No antibiotics, he is the main "bird" vet at the animal hospital we go to. In our town there isn't really a bird doctor. There were no puncture wounds so I don't think he's at risk for an infection from the saliva. He's alive this morning, he's been eating and drinking normally as well as preening. Slept through the night and is sneezing slightly still. I spoke with the vet this morning and he said it all sounds promising, just keep him warm and watch him.

This is important so please be sure. Sending prayers for speedy recovery for Rory.

I would try to find a certified avian vet. You may have to travel out of town for it but an ordinary vet, no matter how much of an interest they have in birds just aren't equipped to deal with birds medically

Update: Rory is doing great! Back to his normal sassy self. No antibiotics were needed, he didn't ever begin to sneeze up mucus. Thanks everyone for the well wishes and information.

What a beautiful bird! Joining in late, but glad to see he appears to have recovered. But it has been just a few days, so please keep Rory under intensive observation!

good to see he's perked up! Keep him under observation until 30 days after the accident happened, I'm sure you're aware how well they can hide disease
