Help please with baby mockingbird

A co worker gave me a baby mockingbird. Barely any feathers.ive had him for almost three weeks and he's doing awsome...til about an hour ago. Not sure what happened but went to feed him and noticed his bottom beak sliced in half. He's still chirping and can still flutter..and can still take food but omg! Will be survive?? Will the beak grow back ever?? This poor thing...i feel so bad I let my guard down with the cats and this is what happened! Right now he's in a box with a heating pad.

GET HIM TO AN AVIAN VET. What do you mean he can still take food? Can he eat or can't he? Is it a cut or is his beak completely compromised. Sometimes you need to do the humane thing.... GO TO A VET!

oh my god! Have you found the other half of the beak? I can't imagine what would cause that to happen.

As long as they can still eat they hopefully should survive. Beaks do grow over time constantly so hopefully they should be okay. It would be the change from formula to normal food that worries me. Don't give up on the little guy

Oh god I didn't notice the cats. GET TO A VET! Above all else if a cat went for him he needs antibiotics

His beak is sliced in half and yes he still takes food from the syring and pretty well i might say. ill be running to the vet....i was hoping to release him ..guess not...ill update you all in a while

Correction...bottom beak tore off...vet said nothing can be done but as long as its eating..play it by ear or surrender bird and itll be humainly put down. Bird is in good health and strong,but wont be able to be released and the beak may not grow back as fast as i want it too..may not at all.

Oh Mariar, this is sad news. Know you will do what you can. Please make sure it is not suffering and amazed it is not shocked to death tbh.

Take care with your cats please, they have a strong instinct. Check all parrots safe?

Got a second opinion. ..wasnt caused by an animal but by his feathers sticking to the side of the cage after feeding and becuz hes so young he paniced and pulled...resulting in pulling off his beak...i go in tomorrrow to see if they can reattach his lower beak...i found it...in the meantim r. .lots of stress..some crying...and lots more feedings with added calcium and vit.d

So very sorry! We kept a mocking bird for almost a year and she successfully reintroduced herself back into the wild!

This also could have been the result of a preexisting injury, so don't be too worked up. There could have been damage before he even came to you that weakened the area, and this was just the result of a bunch of bad things happening.

I'm not sure about reattachment, because of his size, and I'm not familiar with those types of birds but if he's strong and still interested in food, that's very good. Depending on how it goes, it could regrow with time. Although he might not make it into the wild, there are plenty of wildlife sanctuaries that welcome special needs birds.

Chirpy is doing great! The vet said hes healthy and has good weight. She put 6 stitches in his chin to help aid in recovery. As for beak reattachment..i go back in a few months to see if it can be done.

Well chirpy isnt a mocking bird but a ..sparrow. and a forever pet. Beak reattachment will not be possible .and becuz it was his lower beak we have to come up with creative ways to get him to eat on his own. Hes super interested in everything food,so i dont think it will be to hard. At least i hope not lol.

Heres little miss chirpy...eating on her own..its watermelon but it's a start 😀 who knew little sparrows were so needy! But we love her.
