Hah, pain in the butt. So, Samantha's zeolite came in on Friday, and I've been giving it to her twice a day in accordance to Dr. Ross Perry's instruction. Anyways, I thought it would be a good idea to start giving it to Rumi (my girl who's flightless due to neurological problems), so I caught her, and had her drink it.

While holding her, I noticed her right wing looked worse than usual. Then I saw a flash of red on her shoulder. I couldn't do a thorough examination because she was flailing, but it looks like her shoulder's dislocated. It doesn't seem to be too painful, and she can still move and extend it. I'll phone Dr. Morris tomorrow so Noah can have his beak trimmed and Rumi can have her wing poked at.

I have no idea how long her wing's been injured. It could be hours, days, maybe even weeks since she hurt it. Anyways, I'm going to start doing physicals twice a month for all of my birds...okay, maybe just once a month for everyone else, and once a week for Rumi.

Fudge, hopefully things can be popped back into place. And hopefully we can get in quickly. Great, Noah's face smells like garlic shrimp -_-

I know it is probably more difficult with more birds especially if they are all together but surely just standing and observing them every day is sensible. You'd get to know better how they are? Do you not have any interaction with them every day?

Okay, good news, I did a more thorough examination this morning, and her wing seems fine. False alarm. I think I will bring her in with Noah to just have a quick physical examination, since she does fall a lot.

And yes, I do observe each of them everyday. Samantha is feeling way better since I started her on mash and zeolite, Ju's vent is a bit wet and his cere's in limbo between blue and brown (he has testicular cancer), Lara's been kicking at her vent (due to her tumour, allergies, and/or hormones), Pollo isn't feeling so hot (have to start him in zeolite), Rumi looks like garbage because of her neurological disorder (she seems a lot healthier, though), Ria is looking better than she ever has (her left eye is still a bit droopy), and Tiki still seems a bit sick (gagging, perhaps a bit respiratory involvement, too).

I'm going to detox all of them with zeolite (removes heavy metals and other toxins) over the course of the next few months, but I can only manage to do two birds at a time. It's a safe, proven-ish product, so hopefully it will help improve their health. Most of my birds lived at at least one other home/shelter before they came to me, so it couldn't hurt to flush their systems with something besides dandelion root and milk thistle. The Montreal trio (Rumi, Lara, and Pollo) lived at two different shelters before I adopted them (in Montreal, shelter animals are sold to animal experimenters for profit). The kākāriki were at a private home, then a hoarder/bird sanctuary, then the horrible Kitchener Humane Society before I adopted them.
