How to tell if a noise is bad or for fun?

African Grey Timneh
Timneh copies most of the noises I make, my cough, my nose blowing and so on. So she started to make a noise the last couple of days that's sounds like a nose sniffle. How do I know it's her being funny and not something serious. She seems fine and doesn't seem to make the noise while I'm watching. Also the couple of times I've been able to see her making the noise it seems very deliberate opens her mouth and makes the raspberry type noise.

I never heard a bird sniff. I think it's just imitation.
When birds have something in their nare (nose) they sneeze.

Outside of the obvious, most issues are usually snuffed out through a combination of things. If it's just a noise, and you aren't noticing any discharge from the nares, she is still eating and drinking normally, her droppings are looking normal, and otherwise she is acting healthy it's most likely just another noise she is copying, because she likes it.

Confetti likes to breathe like Darth Vader just because.

Sounds of healthy Air Sack air passage and the change to one that involves an infection are different than other sounds. One of the training tools I use is to have the Parrot lay on its back in the palm of my hand and placing my ear to its chest. There is a very different sound to the near silent sound of air moving in and out of the Air Sacks and the clicking sound of an infection in the Air Sacks.

There are also physical displays of difficulty breathing, like tail pumping tied to a very clear clicking sound. Whenever you see this combination, you should already be on your way to your CAV.

The concern that I have had with Greys is their great joy in duplicating sounds. With specific sounds of the Air Sacks, I have not hear of a Grey creating this group of sounds.
