Safe Woods/Papers?

Hey everyone, sorry if this isn't exactly the right spot for this, I'm on mobile and can't see.

I was just wondering what wood is safe to give to my cockatiels and my budgie? I want to buy my budgie some hard wood to chew, as she tries to chew my window trimming. I know treated wood is a no-no, but not much beyond that.

Can my cockatiel chew printer paper and/or sketchbook paper if it isn't printed on? I'm an artist and I have paper laying everywhere, so sometimes they get into it and chew. I have a maple tree in my yard, could I give them sticks from that? My lawn isn't treated.

Maple is a good choice! No thermal paper!

Most window trims that are 'painted' are made of 'white pine' aka: trim stock, and is available at the big box stores, lumber section. The trick is to look at what is in the trim bins, located near the sizing table (saw). The cost is commonly discounted greatly, sometimes free!.

I know that you asked about Hard Wood, but soft white (trim stock) pine is a better choice for your Parrot. Easier on the Beck and the pocket book!

The vast majority of Printed paper have long ago switch to a water based ink that most Parrots tear with no effect. Take care of this paper falling into the water dish. As with anything that discolors the water: Change the Water often! The cardboard roll in the center of commonly 'paper rolls' (paper towels), which is standard stock for cleaning-up after Parrots and near every else can be cut into smaller rolls and provide to your Parrot.

Do not use toilet paper rolls as the glue that holds the rolls together is not recommended for Parrots to chew on!

Telephone books are also good sources for Parrot paper.

Avoid High Gloss Printed Paper!!!

My window trim is stained wood, not painted so. Either way, I keep my birds off of it.

I give my budgie soft wood (yucca), but I think she wants something harder because she always goes for the window...

Oh that's good to know, I'll sacrifice some printer paper then. All my parrots water dishes are raised, so it's no issue. But I'll keep an eye out.
