My Nanday Conure seems to have a full body rash or is it maybe his skin color? He has a pink tint to his skin but he isn't itchy that I can tell and he isn't plucking or over preening. His skin looks increasingly red to me though and I see a touch of redness around his eyes but they are completely fine otherwise. I at 1st considered that it might be his skin tone and it's just different than Ollie's but as time went on (about a week and a half since I had first noticed) it seemed to get more pink and red. Well at least in my mind. He seems fine otherwise, eating, pooping, playing and being a cute baby bird. One thing is I've noticed he isn't sleeping as well as he used to this last couple of weeks because we have a night vision pet cam in his sleep cage and he moves around a lot now as he used to just stay asleep. I'm wondering if his skin is bothering him. I'm going on a trip to France on Thursday and so my worries have heightened quite a lot. He will be in very safe hands while I'm gone as we are having our babysitter staying with the birds and keeping the routine whilst we're away. I have a vet appointment on Wednesday at 11am but until then I thought I'd see if anyone has had this happen to their bird before or if it's normal. Keep in mind he went to the vet when I got him a month and a half ago and got all the major tests done and has not been anywhere where he could have caught anything from other birds since then. Any help would be appreciated.

Bump... I'd really like someone to weigh in even if they haven't had experience with this before.

I'm sorry :(
I don't have any idea. However, if I couldn't get in to see my Vet ASAP I'd ask them to have her call me to pick her brain prior to my visit.

Good Luck & I hope it's nothing serious.

I did just that. She didn't seem too worried considering he's acting totally normal and not even itching or picking at his feathers. I'm going to go tomorrow and hopefully get some answers!

How’s the humidity in your place my place gets super dry in the winter and I struggle to keep it up with humidifiers. Timneh has a personal little humidifier by her house. Could it just be some dry skin?

I do not have any experience regarding skin coloration of your species.

A full body rash would be unusual and deeply concerning.

Parrot skin is commonly translucent with a very light pink tone. Some flushing of color (deeper tones) could occur if the Parrot is heavily stressed or after an extensive flight, etc... But would normally quickly return to normal as the Parrot becomes more comfortable and/or relaxed.

Your Avian Vet is going to be your best source.

Please keep us undated.

Finlay will be fine :) I notice mine goes a little pinker when he has used energy flying or playing. Its just the same as we do when weve done excersise. Dont worry ok x

My initial thoughts are -- humidity -- air too dry? Is he getting baths? Enough sunlight? Food allergy?

Your avian vet will be able to give you some sound advice here, in the meantime, as long as he doesn't seem overly itchy / hot to the touch, it doesn't seem like something to be overly worried about. Hope you can figure this out and sorry I am not much of a help on this :(

He gets a shower every day and we have a steam shower that I put on daily for the birds when I'm showering. So I think that part is fine. His skin doesn't seem dry at all. He does feel warm to me when I touch him. I'm pretty worried...I hope it's for nothing. He seems to get lighter and darker pink to red throughout the day. Like 10 mins ago he was kinda red and now after a shower he's lighter and eye area is more white with a touch of pink. So strange. No idea what it could be....

Maybe take pics as the coloration changes so you can show them to your vet.

Well he took a shower a couple of hours ago and he's not acting really need which unusual when he's wetvand his skin feels warm/hot. Maybe he really sick...so glad I'm going to the CAV tomorrow. I've looked these symptoms up a bunch of times to no avail...

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I have birds of identical species with slightly different skin tones and pigment. However, not familiar with variable colors over time. Hope all is well, but please let us know what you learn from the vet!

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
hoping Finley's Appt goes okay, he's being little so and so what with not wanting to feed and now his funny rash haha! I'm airing on the side that he's okay really, maybe he just gets really embarrassed over mommy worrying over him so much!

Well just been to the vet and looks like she thinks he's got the beginning of a sinus infection and the skin is red mostly around the head and eyes. It was weird because he started sneezing way more when we got to the vet. I think the stress made him show the sickness more. He is now on antibiotics! Hopefully he'll get better while I'm away but if not I authorized my babysitter to take Fin and Ollie in while I'm gone. Soooo glad I took him. He actually seems sick now.

Glad you caught the sinus infection at the beginning stage. Hopefully the antibiotics will quickly eradicate the nasty bacteria.
