Just now Jojo, my sun, bobbed his head on my finger and a lot of clear liquid poured out. He did it again a few minutes later, with only a touch coming out.

I don't know if its regurgitation, or vomit. When my other bird regurgitates it looks like mushed up food. This looks like water.

Otherwise he is acting normal. Should I be worried?

Personally, my Levi has never dove anything like this. So, I would call his Vet immediately for an appt.

Good Luck & I hope itā€™s nothing serious.
Please keep us posted.

What Tami said!

My conure has never done that.

Good for you for being vigilant and reaching out.

Good luck!

My sun Conure did this a little while after she came home shortly after weaning. She drank an enormous amount of water and then spewed it all over haha. We did take her to the vet since we werenā€™t sure if anything else was going on but it was just her being an idiot apparently.

I remember we were in a panic since it was so weird. I remember literally hopping around pulling boots on while talking on the phone with my vet to get in and there before they closed lol Hope itā€™s just him being an idiot like mine!

I have actually done this myself before. It's interesting to say the least

Just to be safe a vet trip is the good thing to do more as a back-up in case there's a reason Jojo decided to drink so much

It's probably not a cause for alarm. Both of my birds, a Sun and a Meyers, will regurgitate for me. The Meyers will frequently guzzle water from the shower or sink faucet, and then reguritate in on me. The Sun has only done it a few times. I have also seen other peoples' birds do it.

Is her poop normal?

vet check is the only way to be sure. it's worth it for the peace of mind alone.

We took him to the vet today. His vitals came back perfect, the only thing wrong was some excess bacteria in the crop. We are giving him meds twice a day for that. The vets didnt seem concerned so hopefully everything is a okay

Join the club.

The only bird I have taken to the vet that hasn't had that problem was one of my baby Tiels.

Glad it turned out ok.

My bird can drink like a maniac (she seems to love the idea of drinking out of glasses) - she occasionally brings water back up after - and I'm pretty sure it's as a result of overfilling her crop.

Her weight has been stable and her behavior is normal so it looks like the same situation as yours. Probably just guzzled too much.

Hi there, I googled and found your post about your Sun Jojo vomiting a lot of clear fluid back in February. I know this post is a little old, but I thought maybe I could reply and you'd see this. (I can't send PMs yet, as I've just signed up!)

My green cheek conure did this this morning, and it was quite a lot of clear fluid - I rushed him immediately to an avian vet and he's being treated for a yeast infection with observation over night (I wasn't comfortable bringing him home)

I was just wondering how Jojo is now? I have never been so scared in my life, and I'm still terrified Apollo is not going to make it.

Thanks so much.:orange:

Hello coffeezombie, nothing worse than when your baby is sick! Well done on getting medical attention so soon as so many owners wouldnā€™t bother. I hope your baby comes home to you safely, you have my every sympathy!

I thought I would update:

He seems to be doing just fine. I'm picking him up today. She said he has a lot of poops in his cage like maybe his crop is finally emptying out (she said it felt doughy like a yeast infection at his vet appointment).

I'm still so worried about him, but so happy he seems to be doing okay. I hope he's not too mad at me for leaving him overnight!

Hey coffeesombie thatā€™s great news, thanks for the update :)

Youā€™ll find a wealth of info here about the doā€™s and donā€™ts of bird ownership so do some reading and donā€™t just limit yourself to threads about sun conures - Iā€™ve found so much here that I didnā€™t know by studying info about all sorts of different species. Like about how those ā€œhappy hutā€ things and self-cleaning ovens are deadly, who knew?! Iā€™ve owned birds for almost 50 years & I never knew that!

Whatā€™s your birdieā€™s name? Let us know when he/she gets home wonā€™t you, and post some pics, we love baby photos here :)

All the very best to you both from your new flock!

Oh yes, I'm no novice, but I have never seen a bird throw up clear liquid like that before - I did find several people who experienced this when I googled (like this post!) but man...so scary! I'm thinking the chop I made for him was kind of heavy on the oatmeal and beans and was a little pasty...and maybe he ate too much of it over the past week and it just got backed up in there and he couldn't clear it out. It's important to note that this was DEFINITELY not normal regurgitation behavior! He was vomiting and clear fluid was stringing out of his mouth. He also really likes the nystatin medicine and will take it straight from the syringe, how weird is that? haha

I am SO THANKFUL I found this post with someone who had their conure do this too, and when I searched posts it seems months later Jojo was just fine.

Apollo seems to be acting totally normal, he's devouring nutriberries (vet recommended diet for the next two weeks, he usually eats Roudybush mini) and drinking and pooping. He still bit me when I reached into his cage, true conure fashion haha. He is a normal green cheek and he's 2.5 years old :)

I also have a cockatiel (male pied, Pikachu) who is 4.5 years old, and 2 budgies who are about 3 and 6 years old (Kiwi and Sunset).

I love my fids!

Thank you so much for listening. You are wonderful! I'll read around the forums and see what else I can find! :)

I hope my posts can help someone else who may have to google this sometime!

Thanks for the updates, Iā€™m very happy Apollo is doing well. I found this forum unfortunately only after I lost my precious little green cheek called Baci just last month. I only had him for four and a half years but he was the love of my life (apologies to my long-suffering husband!) and he died of pancreatitis. Iā€™m utterly heartbroken over it. I joined this forum when I found it the following week and quickly found myself among people who understand what a privilege it is to love and be loved by a birdie. I figure if I can help someone else, my baby Baciā€™s memory will live on.

Donā€™t forget to post those pics! If you want dozens of people to ooh & aah over your baby photos youā€™ve come to the right place!!
