Hi everyone,

One of my aviary budgies, Sunshine, has been holding her right wing funny for the past couple of days. Since she was (and still is) flying okay, I thought maybe it was just a minor injury. However, since I havenā€™t seen any improvement, I am so anxious about her now. I caught her and set her up in a separate cage. I made an appointment at the vet for 3pm this afternoon (itā€™s nearly 12pm here right now). Would it be a broken wing if she is flying okay? If so is there any way to treat a broken wing?

Should I have left her in the cage in the aviary where she can hear her friends? I am concerned about her being confused and scared. But I am also not keen on moving a heavy cage all the way into the aviary again. I will be moving her outside onto our patio so she can hear them, itā€™s a nice warm day so she think being outside will make her more comfortable.

She had normal poop but since I caught her (Iā€™m sure it was a bit of a shock) she has a little bit of watery poop. Is this from stress? Clean vent, was active and eating when in the aviary. She hasnā€™t moved an inch since I moved her to this cage. I am so concerned that this stress will be detrimental to her overall health.

Should she be set up in a smaller hospital cage while her wing heals? I usually set my birds up in one when they are sick.

Iā€™m just so, so anxious. [emoji20]

So, in sum, let me repeat my questions:
1) would it be a broken wing if she is flying okay?
2) if so, is there any way to treat a broken wing?
3) should I have left her in the cage in the aviary so that she can hear and be around her friends?
4) is her poop watery as a result of the stress of being caught? Since her poop was normal in the aviary and she was eating fine.
5) should I set her up in a smaller hospital cage while her wing heals?

Thank you. Here are a few pictures of her wing[emoji20]

Persoanlly, if it were broken.. id doubt she be flying as she would be in pain.
Best to see what the Avian vet says about it :/

Fingers crossed that everything is fine and her wing will heal!

a break would result in no flight or at least very clumsy flight

it could be anything from a misaligned feather to something else. You've done what you feel is best, go with your gut, a run down the vet can only hurt the bank account. She'll probably turn out to just be deciding her wing in a funny way! :p

Shame, I had to catch her to put her in the smaller cage for the vet, and she got so upset when I touched her wing.[emoji24] hopefully I didnā€™t hurt her more in any way, I was trying to be as gentle as possible, ugh, sheā€™s had a stressful day and I wish I could make it easier for her.

it's quite possibly a misaligned feather like I say but it's better now to let her relax a little and have the vet do the hard work

An out of place feather is like a hanging nail for us, annoying and very sore to the touch but once fixed all is well

Bad news. She has a growth under her wing. The vet is going to try to remove it on Monday. He says it doesn't look malignant or aggressive yet... but the trouble is it is right next to a major blood vessel. My poor baby.:( Hoping for the best. Will keep her warm and comfortable in a hospital cage for the weekend.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Oh, poor Sunshine. Glad you noticed and took quick action. Hopefully the growth is minimal and can be completely removed without excessive blood loss.

I assume your vet is an avian specialist to assure the best outcome?

He is indeed an avian specialist. He also has his own birds so he has a real passion for helping them. Just got to hope for the best!
