Carving pumkin and seeds?

I am going to carve a pumpkin from the store--I know these pumpkins have been long-since-cut from the vine (as squash at the store last for weeks-months).
If I bake the seeds, can I give some to my parrot safely (assuming I don't salt?) or is there bacterial risk?

Do you guys ever let your bird chew on jack-o-lantern bits as you are carving?

Just want to know what is safe before I begin.

Pumpkin seeds are a favourite treat by some - as you say, unsalted. I have a couple that love them, and a couple that couldn’t be bothered with them. I’m not aware of any bacterial risks to baked pumpkin seeds and mine like to eat all types of squash as I’m chopping things up. I would totally give them pumpkin bits as I was carving - if it’s store bought, I would probably wash the outside of the pumpkin well before I started in case it was sprayed with anything but that’s about all I can think of.

You can even give them raw. Pumpkin is nothing more than a squash.

I take miniature pumpkins, bake them for 15 minutes to soften them, and feed to Parker with them stuffed with treats. It’s a great foraging opportunity.

GREAT IDEA!

I know it is just a squash but I wondered about the length of time for which it may have sat.
I also didn't know if the greenish varieties (kind of a vintage/sea-foam color) were safe. Assuming they are, as I have eaten them and they were similar..just not sure.

Hardly! When you have a diet specific species it can force you to get creative. But there are so many far more creative than I.

Did you add a little oil? Looks like peas, brown rice, oats and chickpeas?

I mix it up so much I couldn’t be sure. My guess is I put some of his frozen chop in there and topped with flax and oats. Though I occasionally put a dab of coconut or red palm oil, I doubt I put any sort of oil in this - there’s already plenty of beta carotene in a pumpkin. Ekkies require low fat diet. So you have to be very thoughtful in the use of any oil.
