I have a vet appointment at 4:30 pm today with Noodles. I am going to work, but at 6:30, I collected her poop and put it in a ziplock bag. I have placed that in the fridge (just in case she doesn't go later). Will the sample remain viable?

Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
The first time I went to the vet they instructed me to bring poop from a few days, with strict instructions to store it in the fridge.

Every check-up after that they just waited till the parrot pooped and scooped up the fresh delivery ..

(vent to microscope within minutes)

So- if your vet requested 'the morning news' it will be just fine in the fridge, but chances are they prefer it fresh.

It's fine, as the microbes will stay viable in the fridge for up to 24 hours or so...

You were hoping for some p00pfilled fun?

Q: What's a good holiday tip?

A: Never catch snowflakes with your tongue until all the birds have gone south for the winter.

Here in Australia our government sends a bowel cancer screening test kit to every citizen after their 50th birthday (happy birthday the government wants your poop sample!) Our household has therefore had 2 of them now. The test involves taking a sample of your poop for 2 consecutive days and the instructions tell you to store the sample from day 1 in the fridge until you obtain the sample from day 2. Needless to say you wanna make sure your sample is clearly labelled so it cannot be mistaken for leftovers!

The thread title had me a little titillated, too. I was like...
"The bird pooped in the fridge????????????"
I was all set to feel superior, because the Rb never managed THAT one!

LOL!!!
I am glad I got everyone so excited, only to let them down with the boring reality.

That having been said, in order to reward expectations, I will end with a poem that I presented to my teacher/classmates in 3rd grade (with a straight face)---context: we had to memorize and present a poem each week for a fairly large portion of our grade, but I forgot to memorize one, so I told THE ONLY poem that I knew by heart already:

Little birdy in the sky,
Why'd you do that in my eye?
I'm no baby. I won't cry!
I'm just glad that cows don't fly!

Not going to lie...I may have recently taught this poem to an 8-year-old student of mine..LOL!

Ain't no big surprise,
Just pour me a drink
And I'll tell you some lies...":music:

... apologies to Neil Diamond... someone's been getting into the Christmas cheer a little early...! ;)

LOL< it is one of the few I know as well--
I learned the John O Mill version
(he was a dutch teacher of the english language and delighted in how his students corrupted both languages--so he published his versions)

Birdy, birdy in the sky
You dropped a poopje in my eye
I did not swear, I did not cry
I thanked the Lord that cows dont fly!

Lamanuka: thank you, now I have:
"Who let the P00p out? who? who? who?"
stuck in my head
(as if the original was not bad enough already)

Hej missy don’t blame me, you made the quantum leap from the sublime (Neil Diamond) to the ridiculous (Baha Men) all by yourself!
