Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
So Noodles and I visited my parents' house and they have a 6 year old flat screen. We were in the living room watching a movie with the bird and we shut the french doors that connect to the rest of the house because of noise. Anyway, Noodles got really quiet and was acting sleepy. I said that something seemed off and I got worried (but was told I was being paranoid). Anyway, about 5 minutes later, she started making a clicking/wheezing sound and opening her beak with each breath. I rushed her out of the room (confused) and started throwing on clothes and opening windows (anticipating a trip to the vet who turned out to be closed). When I returned to the room to open more windows, I noticed a plastic smell that I hadn't detected earlier. It was coming from the TV (which was working fine). Long story short: Noodles is fine, but she almost wasn't, and we still aren't sure what caused the issue, but the TV was removed for the duration of our trip. VERY SCARY!! She was in serious respiratory distress, and thankfully, she was removed in time. She had been in the room for about an hour when the problems began.
