I swear Bowie is doing this stuff on purpose just to stress me out...I don't cry often but I have cried more about Bowie being sick or injured in the past year than I have throughout my entire life...
We got hammered with this snowstorm that started yesterday afternoon (though we didn't get the 15"+ that they said we were going to), and it finally stopped snowing this morning around 9:00 a.m. We got a good foot of snow total, with some freezing-rain coming down on top of it...So we all had our Sunday breakfasts early this morning so I could go out and shovel the driveway and the sidewalks, and get the car all raked-off and thawed-out...I put everyone in their cages and went outside for about an hour and a half...But somehow I didn't close one of the doors to Bowie's cage...I don't know how, but I didn't...I came back inside and there he was, sitting on top of his cage, covered in blood all over his face...
I can only guess that he flew over to Kane's cage (Senegal) and was hanging-out on the perch attached to the front of the cage, and he and Kane started "Pecking" at each other, because Bowie has 2 puncture wounds, one on each side of his beak, up towards the top...luckily they didn't bleed much, we're lucky he didn't bleed to death while I was outside...He's got 2 good holes in his beak right under his cere and on the sides of his beak, with the cracked keratin top-layer still there...but it's ugly and it must hurt a lot because it's right under his cere and he is not a happy little guy...I cleaned his beak with anti-bacterial soap so I could see what had happened, then cleaned the punctures out with Hibiclens, and put some antibiotic cream on them, and then he got a dose of Metacam in some orange-juice...He drank a little and ate a bit, but was having trouble with his pellets...So I guess he's having eggs later and maybe some oatmeal...And a trip to the CAV tomorrow (I'm not bothering taking him to the 24/7 Animal Hospital we have here, as I have Metacam at home, and they can't and won't do anything that I haven't already done)...He might need some Acrylic/Epoxy put in the holes, I don't know, we'll find that out tomorrow...
Right now he just doesn't look good...He's sleeping huddled-up under my hair, and he just looks like he doesn't feel well at all...I'm sure it's painful, and the Metacam makes them sleepy, but of course I'm freaking out...Hopefully he'll snap-out of this and be fine again...He's like a little tank, but I'd much rather he didn't have to show how strong he is over and over again, I can't take much more of this...He got through the septic-infection he got over the summer from his toenail being infected, now this...
