Josie - pineapple GCC and Hiccup - rose crowned conure
Hi everyone. I plan on taking my two conures to the vet this week for their first check up. Hiccup is a new bird and Josie is two years old. What is the vet likely to do during this visit? Just want to prepare myself. Apart from the birds, do I need to bring anything? Thank you. Nervous Mumma here. The vet is a specialist avian vet.

For my first vet visit, the vet did a fecal smear test (which needed a fresh poop sample at there) and general blood test. I didn't need to bring anything particular but I did fill out a form to explain what their general diet was like, what their schedule was like, and what not.

If anything, you can bring some of their favorite treats. So the vet can make friends with them and also a good treat after they've had a stressful time.

Good for you for doing this.

Would you like a list of possible second opinions or such?
I have so much faith in my wonderful vet that my parronting is easy... I just pretty much do whatever he says. lol

But seriously, choosing the right vet in the first place makes everything a lot easier. Good luck!

it depends on the vet they will examine the beak nails and wings, they will get you a blood sample if you want it. Google Florida parrot DNA and you will get hits for 10 dollar sex tests and other disease tests, my vet doesn't even do those because it's so cheap online....

they will weigh the bird, they may have to burrito the bird in a blanket the first time because everything is so new.

Bring them in some sort of carrier because other animals about. don't worry about poop they know a bird is going to poop itself in a weird situation.

also same as me you have 2 conures, comfort the one and talk to it while the other is getting worked on.
