Cairo the Ekkie!
Cairo has been doing these double droppings. He'll go once, a normal sized one, then again a tiny sized one. It started happening a couple of days ago. It's not every time, but it's a couple of times a day. I've not yet noted if it's after meals or what.

Is this normal for some parrots? Is it because we're in the middle of a diet change? Is a sign that I should haul him to the vet?

Mind you, he's somewhat potty trained - he knows not go go while on me, and he knows to fly to his potty perches to go. I don't do negative reinforcement, and I've stopped giving him treats for going at all (I really don't want him forcing himself to go). Despite all this, could his potty training be a factor?

Took my Amazon out of his cage last night and he went four times in five minutes while holding him. Think it's more of a political statement. Not respecting my authority.

If you’re concerned, consult a vet. But here’s where my gut takes me, and how I’d react:

Pooping = the plumbing is working. If the poop looks normal, I wouldn’t worry about wasting moving along.

Cairo's an ekkie, so I have to make sure his poops are consistent with all three parts. And I know when he's upset with me or even hormonal with me. This isn't anything like that.

Considering it's been happening these past 2-3 days and it's been on and off, I'm a bit concerned.

Does anybody know if it's a sign of internal issues? Or if this is normal with a diet change?

Thanks, Chris! I'll keep an eye on it for now. I'm just a bit concerned about the timing and all. Trying to make sure we can cover basic living with the emergency flight home to the US and budget aside money if Cairo needs to be hospitalized while we're away (in addition to his rather expensive pet sitter). I'm trying to plan if the worst happens again like it did last year - all those emergency vet bills were crazy (then I later had a medical emergency that almost cost as much as that), so I'm a bit stressed at all these emergencies depleting the emergency fund.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I'd be inclined to suspect change of diet, but overall believe Chris is on the right track. Understandably unnerving considering your impending trip.

Standard Operating Procedure for an Amazon!!! :D

Regarding Cairo: Such excellent advice provided above!!!
As an FYI: "I'm a bit stressed" Double check your emotions as it is very possible that Cairo is responding to you being nervous. Based on what you have said, more than likely a semi-full track with a bit more completing the transit after the first dump. Does not sound like an infection of the GI track.

Jim: Yup, getting old sucks!
