Perry sneezed on my today and he did it a couple days ago less intensely. I thought it might of been an isolated incident. But then this afternoon about 30 mins ago he sneezed on me and it actually got mucus on me. I noticed he had a little mucus around his nostrils and a foul or odor like ear wax. His happy smell can be almost similar in a way so i would set if i had missed yesterday or the day before. I called our vet and he had just left. They called the dr and asked if an appointment tomorrow morning would be ok or if I should seek emergency treatment. So tomorrow morning heā€™s going to the vet. There isnā€™t very many options in the area for avian care unfortunately. Perry has seen this vet before with my friend who had him before me. Perry is acting alright eating and what not. I hadnā€™t gotten out my humidifier yet this year cause it hadnā€™t gotten very cold until just recently. I sure hope heā€™s ok waiting will really suck.:(

Your doing the right thing by taking him in to the vet.
That said all my birds sneeze now and then. once my yellow nape was sitting on my chest and sneezed mucus right into my eye...

Birds can't blow there nose's like people so they use sneezes to clear there sinus's. But the smell is what is abnormal and could indicate an infection.

Long past Humidifier Start-up date as one really want to have it running prior to the home needing it! This allows the home not to become dry and affecting all that wood stuff you have around.

Depending on what the weather is doing in your area, the start dates may vary a bit, You commonly have a bit higher humidity levels than we do much further inland. But, you are at least two storms behind the start date.

There is no question that much colder weather carries much less moisture that cooler air. But once the heating system is turned-on, it becomes important to be mindful of what the Relative Humidity is in your home. Yes, there will be days that it has little of nothing to do, but...

Nothing more exciting than an up close and personal face sneeze!

Maybe nothing at all, but they are so darn good at hiding illnesses that its just worth putting eyes-on.

FYI: Our Amazons have long required a January /February Flush to clear-out minor build up of Stuff.

What concerns me the most is your statement: "nostrils and a foul or odor".
Odors in and around the nostrils and beck can be an indicator of a crop infection. Point being, well worth the trip to the Vet...

Perry has a few different types of pellets harrisonā€™s, lafebers, and zoopreem fruit which is his fav. He has a mash of vegetables that i freeze and portion which i need to be feeding him more cause he really likes this one. The odor doesnā€™t seem to be as present tonight but i think I could get a better smell when he sneezed. Iā€™ve been trying to disinfect his whole cage with my steam cleaner today. I just got replacement filters for his air purifier in the mail today. So thatā€™s good timing. Iā€™ll start rocking his humidifier also. Thanks everyone for the help.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Hopefully nothing more than weather transition, but the vet trip is well worth the effort. I too would be concerned with odor, possibly sign of infection.

Have a good vet visit, please keep us updated!

He got weighed in at 450 grams. Heā€™s been an absolute sweet heart on our first visit together at the vets.

Vet said he sounds good and is looking good doing the bay trip in his water for a couple of weeks. If thereā€™s any changes we will call and go back.

Thanks Jim. My vet just adopted an electus whoā€™s doing a number on his feathers. But was so awesome I got to hold him for a bit and he gave me kisses. My first time holding an electus so i was excited.

Perry using Timnehs old bag. He chose this carrier over the other two today. Whatever he wants to go into is good with me. A little small but not too long of a ride.

Did you ask him why he wanted you to put meds in water? It is generally very hard to tell how much they are getting when you do it that way, plus, it can stop them from wanting to drink their water and even accelerate microbial growth in the water in some cases.

This is what heā€™s had me do iā€™m the past. I think more as a precautionary measure. it doesnā€™t seem to be bothering him so far. I will make sure to switch out his water often.

Perry doesnā€™t seem to be having any sneezes so far today knock on wood and the smell from his face seems much better to gone. Also knocking on wood. Humidity is up in his room and air purifier is cranking. Hope he gets all cleared up.
