Hello all. I recently got a new sun Conure about 3 hours ago. She's a 5 month old pure sun Conure. In the pictures she looked very healthy and happy but when he delivered her to us (it was a trade done on CL). I put her on the floor to get her used to walking around my apartment and I noticed her feet were crooked, like she was wearing the wrong shoes on the opposite feet. Her feet seem to be fine when she's on a perch. I'm not sure if she's in pain since I just met her. But I'd love some thoughts before we bring her into the vet next Monday.

(Couldn't include pictures since she's so new I don't want to disturb her settling down.)

Video for an example. Does this look similar?

Hi, I have a cockatoo and a conure. They both walk like this. Her issues is not like this at all. She also is very awkward when she perches.

Oh, okay. The original post said she perches normal. [emoji2372]

Hope you figure it out, good luck.

I know you don't want to disturb her but I think a picture or video would be very helpful. I thought of the same thing as the above user because parrot's feet natural point in when they walk. Sometimes its important to put a bird through a new situation so it grows confident - especially a young bird like that, so I don't think snapping a photo would scare her too much :)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Birth defects are possible with bird feet, I had an African Grey with a few mangled toes. Some therapy is possible if caught early.

Good luck at the vet, hopefully an certified avian variety. Feel free to post pics in the interim.

Hello all, She is a biter so it was quite difficult to get her out of her cage, but here is what her feet look like when she's walking on the floor. The person who traded me has refused to get in contact with me, I fear he used COVID as an excuse to let me not meet her in person before getting her.

Great job on getting a picture. Tho its still difficult to determine in your burd has splayed legs by this one picture. You need to visit an avain vet right away. Because your burd is still growing they can do a special hobble wrap that will help the legs move into a normal position. Time is of the essence if your burd does have splayed legs. I am not sure from the picture .
Also younger burds need low perches as tg
They are still learning how to burd

Stance seems odd, the vet will be able to watch her walk and gently manipulate feet and legs. Hopefully whatever is wrong can be corrected.

Hey, thanks. Yes I have had parrots most of my life so when I saw her behavior, (hanging out on the sides of the cage and not using perches) and her walking like that I knew something was wrong.

What a cutie. It is hard to tell by the picture but the left leg (one in the rear) looks to be a little bit out of normal alignment. Could be a slight bit of splayed legs but it could be that they just haven't had a properly sized/adequate perch or could be linked to lack of proper nutrition. No doubt a ACV will figure it out and aid you in getting it corrected.
