Some may not see birds, but it's important to not rule out any help until you've searched in your area first. Can you tell us more about your bird, is it scratching all the time? Do the eyes look cloudy or irritated at all? We need some more info.
1) Check with any zoo or game farm, they might know of a vet that sees birds
2) Check with the person who sold you the parrot for any vet information
3) Search for any parrot or bird clubs in your area, again they might know of one
Very important that your parrot sees a (preferably) certified avain vet ASAP. By the time parrots show signs of being sick or ill, they are already very sick or ill. Good luck with your baby!
My God!... thank you all for the response, here in Nigeria it very rare to see a vet a sees bird, you might see couple of result online but not everyone have access to them for one or 2 reasons. Like in the area I live here we done have any, he doesnāt scratch all the time but it looks irritated now, and little wound on the beak top might be a result of a jump, his a very stubborn cutie, his just moved in 3 months with me and wonāt let me touch more than his beak, I know thisāll take time , and it not helping because he wouldnāt sleep in the cage at night, he doesnāt like the cage at all , maybe it because I bought him with the cage and for the person that sold him, in Nigeria it sad to say they hawk this birds in road traffic, and that where I got him, so I can never find the seller
Medi, also with Covid-19, a lot of vets are doing a tele-med visit, so they can be far away and still help.
And if you can, get a real parrot cage, as big as you can afford. The change in cages will maybe reset your relationship with him. I like Senegal Parrots they are so cute!
I can tell he is thin. As well as sinus issues, or skin issue.
Feed foods like cooked sweet potatoes, cooked carrots, cooked pumpkin. Offer bell peppers, romaine, Swiss chard, mango, pomegranate, a little hard boiled egg. In addition to what ever yiu are feeding. Don't force him to eat new goids. But many times they crave them and will eat them right away. Other times takes offering over and over.
Duet plays a huge role in immune health.
Any metal other than stainless steel must be removed. Ckean cage with a little white vinegar in water, clean everything. Tgen wipe dien with a water inky damp rag as vinegar can burn rge skin if to strong. But uts a good disinfect. Don't make very string.
Wrench 13,
thanks so much, Iām trying my possible best to find a vet around, also about the cage Iām getting a bigger and convenient one soon...he made me love Senegal too, their calm and loving, independent and stubborn,
Laurasea
he lost appetite and have poor diet, Iām sure of that too, because the seller only feed them groundnuts, so it really hard for me changing his diet but Iām really trying, like now he enjoy eating apple and corn, but still groundnut is his fav, have tried offering him carrot and some other fruits but wonāt eat it, some he never even try or want to try, but Iāll try the cooked ones you mentioned
Can anyone just tell me what to do and how to treat or help him relieve without the help of a vet? I might not find one, what if I couldnāt find one? Anything I could do? I know youāll have experience and might have encountered such
A few drops of betadine in water, and use a q tip to spread on this skin on his face. It will help with most types of skin infection, you can do 3 times a day.
I am so sad to see you struggling like this, so sorry, and I hope you find help.
You can try justanswer.com - they work on monthly retainer, have loads of specialists online for monthly subscription. The avian vets there will tell you if there's something you can give from a pharmacy. They are really good and offer practical help when you can't get to an Avarian vet locally.
Please get a new cage. Get him out that one asap. I feel so sure the cage has something that is making him sick and thats why he doesn't like the cage!
Have you tried finding a good parrot pellet, with fortified vitamins, its not ideal but could at least be better than the ground nuts, just as a supplement while you try get him to eat whole foods.
