Hello all!
During a recent visit to the avian hospital, my little Daisy had an x-ray done of her chest. During the process of the x-ray, they broke her wing!!!! I am devastated because a surgery was not an option (she may not survive) so now her wing is in a sling. Dr. says it may never recover, but so far she is doing okay but it's only been a few days. Has this ever happened to anyone before? Can anyone give me any advice? I guess I just needed to reach out to get some support because I am quite affected by this. Daisy's flight is everything to her, she cannot climb like my other green cheek could and she is so good at flying that I'm not sure if it's going to affect her behaviour later. Has anybody had any experience with their bird breaking its wing? It is not located close to any joints which is good and it is only a fracture so not actually a broken bone. The doctor told me I have to wait at least two weeks to know anything. Thank you for reading!:(:(:(

Oh my goodness, this is so sad!!! Poor Daisy!!!!! Birds are so delicate. Sometimes they use sand bags to hold the wings in place and that could have broken such a little ones bones....

Keep that wing still, and her quiet. That's the best chance for it heal

The next step!

If she is unable to fly, I would recommend completing a Web Search including Parrots, Birds, with Handicap, Disabilities. You will find everything from cage recommendations to adjustments of your home.

If she is unable to regain her ability to fly. Trim both wings equally and assure that climbing aids are available near everywhere.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Very sad to know Daisy had an accident within the avian hospital. Hopefully the fracture will heal and permit flight over time. She is young and likely quite adaptable in the event her flying is curtailed. Lots of love, support, and considering the advice shared by Sailboat will proved helpful.

You might find a second opinion of her condition and prognosis helpful.

Oh, she may definitely fly again!!!

What do us people know about flying???

The main thing is that she gets through this, and flying or not, it’s a happy ending.

Supporting care is important. Warmth and nutrition high on the list. Butds that are injured or sick burn twice the normal calories. Sometimes they can't actually eat enough to keep up. If thats the case I would supplement with exact baby burd formula if she will take it. My GCC would take some if I made thick abd offered on my finger. My others took from a syringe. Extra protein is needed to heal, a little boiled egg would work. To sneak in a little calcium id feed greek yogurt with Acidophilus as one if the active cultures sbd make sure no artificial sweetners. Enough to voter yiur thumb is a good amount, and feeding by hand seems to work. Just offer abd wait don't chase her around with it.

And keep her caged, remove stuff so it's easy for her to move around and not bump wing. Only take her out for cuddling. Rest sbdvtime to heal.

Thank you so much for your heartwarming comment. Yes so far she is keeping still. The one good thing is that she is in very very good hands and one of the best doctors in all of Canada is taking care of her. Thanks for your support.

awwww! Thank you SO much for your uplifting comment, it means a lot to me at this moment! She is a joyful bird, so yes, no matter what she will keep her joy. And her flying skills are top-notch – honestly I have never seen a parrot lie like that: she can even hover like a hummingbird! So maybe she will somehow practice if her wing regains okay mobility, and get better and better! Thank you for that –

Thank you so much for all your advice! She's actually at the hospital right now and the doctor is hand feeding her very nutritious food, she is in a sling and has a collar on and they are keeping an eye on her. So crossing fingers and praying for her every day and night!
