On Sunday, Jade was her usual Jadie-Jade self. Eating, playing, teasing her "brother" and "sister", etc. When my husband let her out of her cage for breakfast yesterday, she was very quiet and didn't really want us to touch her. She wouldn't take her usual hulled sunflower seed treat. This was unusual, but were thought she was just a little tired since she'd had a busy day on Sunday - lots of company!
When my husband got home after work yesterday, she was more lethargic and not at all playful. She wouldn't take a treat - not even a grape! - and wasn't opening her beak or climbing around; and we saw that she hadn't eaten much if anything at all. By the time I got home, he had called several vets, but they were all closing in about 5 min. and couldn't wait for us to get there. (Since we live in the Dallas metroplex, something "close" is about 45 min away.) A vet ER was suggested and we made the 100 mile round trip.
After we got there and the doctor examined her (he was VERY impressed with our lovely RFM, btw) he determined she "tweaked" her beak and it was sore. He didn't find any sign of illness or injure, so we're working under the assumption that she twisted/tweaked it in an odd way. He gave her a shot of pain medication and sent more home with us along with a steroid to keep swelling down.
She was feeling better by the time we got home - good enough to eat a couple grapes and sprouts. I just got a call from my boys at home - she's pooping and seems more chipper today. I'll see how much she ate when I get home. We are soooooooo glad it isn't anything serious!
