I'm a new owner of a GCC. How often should I be bathing him? It's been really cold lately, should I be bathing him regardless?

All responses will be greatly appreciated.

PS: I'm guessing that adding soap to his bath would be lethal. So do you guys add anything else to the water for sanitary purpose?

I personally don't bathe mine during cold weather. You don't add anything to the water you bathe them in. But someone posted something not long ago about rose extract and something else mixed....

just use plain warm water, and let your bird dry off in a warm room :) nothing else is needed for sanitary purposes

the rose water and glycerine mix was for birds going through a molt, but the mix amounts were tiny! but you need to check ingredients in rose water as some have alcohol mixed in it! so unless you are goin to make your own, i'd not bother to be safe

Merlin wont bath during the cold weather, he doesn't really like to bath period. He seems to enjoy baths while hes bathing, but wants to be a dirty boy most of the time. I have tried spray bottles & he hates them. I make sure that he sits on the shower door when I shower & run a humidifier all the time. Must be a personality thing. Merlin likes to stink!

If you shower with your bird it is fine to use a hair dryer as long as it does not have teflon. My Rosie seems to enjoy being dried.

You may find out that your GCC baths in his/her water bowl. All mine do almost everyday! If it's to cold, I use a hairdryer to dry them but usually it's always warm (70-72 degrees) in the bird room so I let then air dry.

HEHE mine does too, 3 or 4 times a day sometimes, and he will do it at night too if I dont remove the bowl at bed time. I dont want to take his water, but I am afraid he will catch a chill.

Why won't Merlin bath? He has fun when he does get in shower w/me. I'm puzzled. He does seem to bath more in the summer months. Maybe he doesn't like the cold. I keep the house @ 70 deg during the day.
