Hello everyone, just wondering what your thoughts are on my GW Macaw's condition. I will be taking her to the vet to get checked.

She is 19 yrs old and has displays intermittent quick deep breaths (with a tailbob). Sometimes I hear a clicking noise in her chest. Most of her breaths are normal????

Any ideas.

Thanks

Hi there,

You said you were taking her to the vet - GET THERE ASAP!!!! Keep her warm and in an area with absolutely no draughts. Keep an eye on her breathing and eating. Make sure that the vet takes blood before giving anitbiotics and that he gives you a probiotic as well. Has there been any change with her? Meaning that you moved her or something like that?? Have you introduced any other birds into her environment?

The vet might nebulise her and give her anitbiotics, what are you feeding her? She might be Vit A deficient and giving her green food like spinach etc. will help to boost her immune system.

Hope that you can get her to the vet asap so that you can feel better about it and he/she can give her the medication to help her. Good luck, keep us posted :) :)

Long story, but she just came to live with us a couple of days ago from another province (unfortunately I was unable to see her prior to getting her)....from an elderly lady.
So she has been moved and our house is quite dusty on account of renos-we were hoping to get her a bit later when the house was done and the furnaces cleaned. Not the ideal situation, but one that had to be done.
She is eating fine and is talking up a storm....but seems to have this breathing issue. Will certainly get her to the vet.

Thanks. I sure hope everything is okay. I just lost my beloved GW of 19 years last year to PDD :( Can't stand more heartbreak.

Hi Kimberley

Let us know how it goes with the vet when you have taken her. Did you use any of your old parrots stuff with the other one? Toys, perches etc? It might be allergies to you renovating. Stay positive and get her to the vet asap :)

As hard as it was to get rid of Brixley's stuff...I threw everything out and we have since painted all the walls and replaced the flooring....so don't think there is a chance of catching that.

I sure hope that she is okay...

Thanks for responding.
